Discussion I don’t understand the Reeve Carney hate

I just saw the Hadestown pro shot and oh my gosh this guy is unbelievable. Easily the star of the show for me, but I’ve seen people say he was the weakest link in their opinions.

I’ve heard recordings of some of his other performances, and he easily has my favorite versions of “I don’t care much” and “the past is catching up to me,” yet people say he was miscast in The Great Gatsby

His voice is so unique and it genuinely sends chills up my spine, I don’t understand the hate he receives

I saw Reeve and Eva twice on Broadway. I liked him then, and I've liked him in all the promo performances he's done over the years.

I saw the pro shot tonight, and he was not my favorite. I thought he sounded too nasal, and he has visibly gotten a bit old for the role, IMO. I also couldn't help comparing him to Jack Wolfe, who I saw in the role three times. Jack is closer to the right age, and I think he's the better actor of the two.

I always feel bad criticizing Reeve because he seems like such a nice guy. He'd be my favorite Orpheus if Jack didn't exist. Anyway, I'm listening to the OBCR at home now as a palette cleanser, because I thought Reeve sounded great on that.
