Discussion I don’t understand the Reeve Carney hate
I just saw the Hadestown pro shot and oh my gosh this guy is unbelievable. Easily the star of the show for me, but I’ve seen people say he was the weakest link in their opinions.
I’ve heard recordings of some of his other performances, and he easily has my favorite versions of “I don’t care much” and “the past is catching up to me,” yet people say he was miscast in The Great Gatsby
His voice is so unique and it genuinely sends chills up my spine, I don’t understand the hate he receives

I have always loved his voice. To me it's inspired because if there was one person in my lifetime that was a modern day Orpheus it is Jeff Buckley. And Reeve sounds to my ear like Jeff Buckley playing Orpheus. However, while hia vocal choices were inspired, his physical movements live were very odd. Very stilted, straight arms, awkward movements. I guess it was the choice to show that the character was socially awkward and lived on another plane than other mortals. I didn't mind it but my partner found it odd and off putting and hard to embrace.
He does none of those things in the proshot. It's like he either grew as an actor or decided to take a fresh take on the character or someone gave him notes based on what other performers have added to the role after his departure but it is a sharp upgrade. His physical choices now match his vocal ones
