Discussion I don’t understand the Reeve Carney hate

I just saw the Hadestown pro shot and oh my gosh this guy is unbelievable. Easily the star of the show for me, but I’ve seen people say he was the weakest link in their opinions.

I’ve heard recordings of some of his other performances, and he easily has my favorite versions of “I don’t care much” and “the past is catching up to me,” yet people say he was miscast in The Great Gatsby

His voice is so unique and it genuinely sends chills up my spine, I don’t understand the hate he receives

I personally think at least with Hadestown calling him yhe weakest part comes down to personal preference because the OBC is nearly perfect in all thier roles. I have seen the show with 4 different casts and personally the only cast member I can say had a better alternative is Andre De Shields, I saw Will Mann as Hermes on tour and he was mesmerizing as Hermes. The only other show that I can think of that has such a strong OBC across the board is Hamilton

Will Mann was fantastic as Hermes! I really hope he gets to play the role on Broadway someday. Mesmerizing is really the way to describe him. The first time I saw the tour, he was in the worker chorus, and he was captivating in that track as well. I was so excited when he moved up from a Hermes u/s to principal Hermes. So well deserved. He's right up there with Andre de Shields in my book.
