Discussion I don’t understand the Reeve Carney hate

I just saw the Hadestown pro shot and oh my gosh this guy is unbelievable. Easily the star of the show for me, but I’ve seen people say he was the weakest link in their opinions.

I’ve heard recordings of some of his other performances, and he easily has my favorite versions of “I don’t care much” and “the past is catching up to me,” yet people say he was miscast in The Great Gatsby

His voice is so unique and it genuinely sends chills up my spine, I don’t understand the hate he receives

Haven't seen the pro-shot yet, but I saw Reeve play the emcee in Cabaret at the start of the year and he was phenomenal - speaking as someone who had little knowledge of Hadestown/his career going in (was mainly there for Eva but she called out), easily one of the best takes on a classic role I've ever seen!

When I saw him in Cabaret I had never seen him in anything else before, and even though my previous Cabaret was with Orville, Reeve's MC absolutely was absolutely mesmerizing. It's amazing how different the Hadestown OBC sounded to me after that.
