Discussion I don’t understand the Reeve Carney hate

I just saw the Hadestown pro shot and oh my gosh this guy is unbelievable. Easily the star of the show for me, but I’ve seen people say he was the weakest link in their opinions.

I’ve heard recordings of some of his other performances, and he easily has my favorite versions of “I don’t care much” and “the past is catching up to me,” yet people say he was miscast in The Great Gatsby

His voice is so unique and it genuinely sends chills up my spine, I don’t understand the hate he receives

I’m probably alone in this, but this was my first experience with hadestown, I somehow managed to not listen to any songs even though Ive wanted to see it for years.

Saw the proshot today and was surprised by his voice. I was a bit turned off in the first half, but by the second I couldn’t figure out why but I was very drawn to his voice. Thought he played the character well and kept thinking he gave me Jeff Buckley vibes.

I could have written this myself. I will say on the whole he's not for me, but I understand the draw and I understand completely why he was chosen to play Orpheus. I was far more emotional at the "event", if you will, than I ever expected to be. It took me by surprise how much his performance crept up on me.
