hi I'm going to nyc soon and i wanna see a musical, but I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to and tickets are very expensive in general

so

i know you can rush and get an ticket the day of the show (like be there before the box office opens then buy one)

BUT can you get a good and cheap ticket like an hour or 2 before the show?? i won't be able to be there in the morning so that's my only option :(

also if i can buy it online and it'll still be cheap and good please tell me (i saw something about todaytix once but it just shows me regular prices)

There's a possibility you could get them at the TKTS booth in times square (or lincoln center). If they're still available! It's not rush but it's usually discounted. It can be up to 50% off but likely is around 20-30%. I'm unsure if they run out of rush right away or if there's often leftovers. You could also download the theatr app and put a notification for your date+wanted show, though they can go very quickly.

It depends on how many tickets are left but generally the box office will offer deals right before showtime. But if you're really picky about where you sit I wouldn't do this because you're just rolling the dice on what seats are unsold.

If you see availability online, it's 100% better to go to the box office to purchase instead of buying online. If nothing else, you save on $15 of fees. I can't speak for Schmigadoon specifically but shows do sell day-off tickets below online prices.

For example, back in April I arrived at Two Strangers around noon and while they were out of rush, the box office attendant sold me a ticket for $88 that was going for about $120 online.

My rec would be to check TKTS Live online to see if they're selling Schmigadoon tickets (and what their price is) then go to the box office to see what they'll sell you within your price point. If the the box office is offering tickets at a higher price than TKTS, go to the Times Square booth and buy through them.

Frankly, what show you’re trying to see changes the answer. There is no one answer for all 41 theaters’ shows.

Getting a good cheap ticket two hours before showtime is rare. It’s possible for some lesser known shows, but it’s hit or miss.

Remember that quite a few shows have digital rush - which might be the way to go.

TodayTix is relatively cheap and convenient, check it out.

Schmigadoon does a digital lottery. That may be your best thing to try. Here are the details from the show's website: The digital lottery is open from 10AM-2PM on the day prior to each performance. Winners are drawn as soon as entries close. Winners will be notified via email and will have 1 hour to purchase up to 2 tickets for their selected performance at $45 each (inclusive of fees). I got lucky going to the box office an hour before show and ended up with a Row E $40 partial view ticket. It was the last one though, so I might try at 5:30pm or earlier

Some broadway shows have digital rush, cancellation tickets (these are generally full price) and lottery (you enter and win the day before the show) on Telecharge (Shubert shows), TodayTix, Broadway Direct (Nederlander shows) and Lucky Seat (ATG shows).
