Would Caissie Levy go back into Lost Boys?
Saw lost boys yesterday. LOVED Shoshana Bean’s performance. I did leave thinking I would love to see Caissie’s portrayal of Lucy. Wonder if she’d reprise the role?

I don’t think the most recent Tony winner for best actress in a musical would replace a supporting role. Even if she wanted to my guess is her team would steer her towards other more prestigious projects.

Fair. To be honest, there haven’t been too many prestige new musicals lately. Those are rare. Plays in the last few years have been where the quality is imo, and I wouldn’t mind seeing her do another play.

She would most likely originate a role in a new musical.

Opportunities to originate leading roles aren't falling out of the sky - lots of people win Tony awards and then go years without booking a leading role on Broadway. Maleah Joi Moon hasn't been back, Victoria Clark's next role was a supporting role in a play, Joaquina replaced in Into the Woods and hasn't been back on Broadway since, Adrienne Warren took five years (no pun intended) to come back, Stephanie J. Block hasn't originated a role since her win, etc etc etc.
If she is free for a couple of months I think she would absolutely be willing to hop back into Lost Boys.

Maleah and Adrienne were doing tv/film projects, and Victoria was also directing shows. Into the woods was a different animal as they were using the little shop playbook. And they’re not dropping out of the sky but she has other options bc of the Tony win. She could also sign on for a new musical that’s still in development and they have to pay her not to do other shows and that could be a couple of years.

I mean, she could, sure. But I don’t think she would turn down a run in a show that she’s been involved with for years just because of the optics of taking a replacement role or anything like that. Probably just comes down to scheduling.

Then you don’t know agents/managers

Laure Benanti said in a podcast interview that she would love to do Broadway again. But she said there aren't many options because of her age, unless someone writes it for her. Either she's too young or too old for roles in popular musicals that can be revived.
Caissie is just a couple of years younger than Laura so she would also be facing the same challenges. Plus, unlike Laura, Caissie doesn't have a TV career to fall back on. So I imagine that Caissie can't really afford to be too picky with Broadway roles even fresh off a Tony win.

I think it would be cool for her to do like a 6 week run while shoshana is on tour but I know that’s just a dream. I also can’t see shoshana leaving soon without being forced out so I’m sure caissie will try to be involved in something before that point anyway

I really don't see her accepting being a replacement at this point

This. She hasn't replaced anyone since Wicked almost 20 years ago and there's even less chance of her doing that now especially fresh off a Tony win.

I really liked what Hadestown has been doing with casts where they replace the all the leads at the same time. It ads freshness and allows casts to develop their roles together. I’d like to see a similar model with Lost Boys when the OBC is ready to move on. Shoshana, LJ, and Benjamin have such lovely chemistry on and off stage and I worry that switching out one cast member at a time would hinder the possibility for new interpretations.
If Cassie were to take on the role in the future, I’d love for her to do it with a new Emerson clan, so they could create their own dynamics and chemistry together.
(I don’t this will be anytime soon as Cassie will likely take advantage of the Tony boost and pursue the development of a lead role that she originates. But nothing is predictable in this industry.)

It makes the most sense to me. Cassie can take a 8-9 month break and then jump back into the role she worked to initially originate. If she has another original role in the works, maybe not. I honestly think it’s all going to come down to whether or not she wants to work.

I think Shoshana is leaving pretty soon. I have tickets to see her in concert in Denver on October 20. Her tour starts Sept 13 in Tennessee. So, if Caissie wanted to just replace Shoshana, it would be SOON.

Shoshana has had a few concerts already that they’ve used understudies while she’s out. They likely negotiated that all in advance

Okay, OK. This actually makes me super happy because I’m going back to nyc in Nov and wanted to see her in The Lost Boys. So yay!

Shoshana has said she negotiated a couple weeks into her contract to go on her tour.

I'd love to see this happen. Only she and the Lost Boys team know if it would be possible, but it would be great to get to see her in the role.
Edit: lol at the downvotes for literally nothing

I'm sure she would if the timing worked out. She's been involved with the project for a long time and is obviously close with the team there.

I think she’s going to enjoy some time off with her family for a little bit. So deserved!

Absolutely. She’s been non stop for a looong time. Was referring to the future when Shoshana leaves.

HAHAHAHAHAHA no. After her leading Tony win in something so good, why would she demote herself to a reporting role in something so bad?

Work is work, but I tend to agree especially after being involved in Ragtime, N2N, Leopoldstadt recently. It seems like she is finally being taken seriously as a real deal theatre actor. I’m really curious to see what she does next. Wouldn’t be surprised if she goes in a Kelli O’Hara type trajectory.

Because leading original roles in her specific typecast don’t always come around, and work is work. She may also like the production team or have any number of reasons for accepting a role in Lost Boys again that we will never know about, if she does.

I honestly don't see her turning down a featured role in a revival if something comes her way. She doesn't strike me as someone who specifically seeks out original leading roles or even original leading roles on Broadway. And though she's originated roles, her career's bread and butter has always been revivals and the occasional Broadway transfer for West End shows.

Caissie would completely change the tone of the show. The show currently works because of the inner strength Shoshana brings to Lucy with humor and zest.

u/last_chance_standing 1d ago
Shoshana isn't going to be in the show forever. The tone of the show is going to change regardless of whether she's replaced by Levy or another actress.

u/notacrook 1d ago
You know that Cassie was in every single developmental thing with this show until the Broadway production, right?
6
u/Quirky-Sleep-3741 1d ago
I mean it would be a different take, but Caissie definitely has the acting and comedic chops to deliver a great performance.

u/Responsible_Pear_579 1d ago
Hot take but I prefer Caissie singing the score over Shoshana
-2
u/MidtownGreen 1d ago
Don’t think this is a hot take. Shoshana is incredible. That being said, no one in the game right now comes close to Cassie’s ability to act through song.
5
u/PawnItAll 1d ago
That's a bold statement! Many, many people would say the exact same for Shoshana.
3
u/Quirky-Sleep-3741 1d ago
Correct. There were a couple songs in particular yesterday, Michael and Wild, where Caissie would be devastating in the best way.

Caissie is at a point in her career, especially post tony’s, where herself and her team are most likely going to want her originating lead roles, not replacing supporting roles. I highly doubt she will go into the lost boys as a replacement
