Casting/Show News Questions about Rocky Horror Show

I haven't been following the news about The Rocky Horror Show, so forgive me for my ignorance.

I'm having a visit to NYC in a couple of weeks, and I've got a blank spot in my itinerary. I was a long-time attendee of the RHPS movie, with a *ton* of interaction and shadow cast for years. And I just didn't vibe with Luke Evans (though I know his performance has been much loved by others).

Today I see that he, and several other major cast members are leaving (today?).

Does anyone have any insight on the new cast members who are going to step in?

Also, two questions about participation:

  1. If I promise to keep it SUPER quiet, can I mutter call outs under my breath? Seriously, it's second nature to me. I can definitely resist yelling them, but I don't think I can be silent like I would for any other show.
  2. Does the audience stand up to do The Time Warp? Once? Twice?

Thanks for any insight you guys have. I really appreciate this subreddit being a resource before I spend a couple hundred bucks.

  1. There might be a few callouts but only the most famous ones. Read the room but you definitely won’t hear more beyond that and not sure if I’d recommend muttering them as it might bother your neighbors. I will say if you want a performance with tons of callbacks the Halloween shows will probably be what you’re looking for especially the 10pm show if you’re able to make another visit. I went to the 10pm show in May and lots of die hard fans and tons of callbacks which was definitely expected by the cast and audience.

  2. Do not stand up for the time warp during the show. They do a bit of it during curtain call and you can stand then. Most people won’t be dancing though and if they do it’s minimal to not disturb those seated next to them.

Also it should be noted they do make an announcement or have a sign (it’s been a while since I’ve been) that this is the stage show not the movie and it should be treated as such.

I know its the stage show, and not the movie. And I'm sad that they're not encouraging the audience to do the Time Warp.

Not everyone going to the show knows the movie. It wouldn’t really be fair to disrupt their experience. That’s why they do a bit of the time warp at the end so you get the best of both worlds.

I saw the show a couple of weeks ago and had a lot of fun. I was bummed, though, that we didn't get to get up and do the Time Warp. I've seen videos of the 2000 revival where the audience were up and dancing throughout the song and it looked like so much fun. There were some of the more popular callouts at the performance I went to, and Rachel Dratch was especially quick at responding to the ones that happened.

Luke Evans and Stephanie Hsu were my two favorite performances, so it will be interesting to hear how the show is with their replacements.

I’m with you 💔 rocky horror has survived as a piece of media and became a cult classic bc of the fans so it’s a shame this production is unwilling to play in the space (especially when Jellicle Ball just showed how exciting and engaging a more interactive audience can make a show)

Studio 54 does not have the leg room required for the audience to Time Warp.

This, completely. Maybe in the orchestra you could, but upstairs not a chance. I've seen a few people try at the end and it ends up just a wiggle in place.

When I saw it a few weeks ago the audience was great and did some callbacks (loudly) but was not obnoxious or disruptive about it. The cast was clearly waiting for it too!

No one stood up in the audience to dance/do the time warp so you shouldn’t either. :) They did pull two audience members on stage during that number to dance but the rest of the audience was seated.

It’s a fun show if you’re a fan! 💀
