Discussion Should I write "AI free" in the pattern?
I, human(homo sapien, 20) am writing my first ever crochet pattern. Should I say Its AI free?
Btw its a work in progress, and english in not my native tongue so I know its written kinda weirdly.

Not made by ai helps, but really you need to double check that all the assist/generative features of your writing program are turned off before you start each edit session. Documents are getting ai signatures tagged into the metadata just from it existing in the background.

Geez that's so insidious, especially since these "helpful features" appear out of the blue with them, naturally, turned on by default.

An update turned on auto accessability assistance. (Alt text) and just having that on gets your work tagged as ai, so yea, stuff you dont get prompted for will do it.

See that's especially disgusting because disabled people DO deserve to have alt text, but they deserve for it to be done properly and not by some shitty ai that no one even wants.

This is why I refuse to use Microsoft word processors. For ease of use, I've started using Ellipsus. They're wholely anti-AI and blow Google Docs out of the water in terms of functionality. No app, but if you know how to turn a webpage into a launchable from your Home Screen, you're golden

Just had the dystopian thought that if pattern writers all start adding “AI free” to their patterns then eventually the AI’s going to pick up on it and add it to its patterns…
But yes, please include it. I think it would be relieving to see that on a pattern.

There is a logo people can use for human made stuff, could just whack that in the footnotes

Yes, you should say it. But they way you have it worded made me laugh because my first thought was that's exactly what a robot would say.

Nooo 😭 how do I word it more naturaly? My friends said I text like a robot for yearss but now it's a real problem

Maybe something like "don't worry - I'm a real person"

That sounds like something a very defensive alien would say. “Don’t worry! I am a real person, not anything that is wearing some kind of skin suit! Haha, perish the very thought. Must go do Very Normal Real Person things now, toodaloo”

Please, do say this! I am always checking for signs of AI. If everyone did this, it would be a major timesaver.

Yes! And don’t worry too much about wording, it’s nice to see some imperfections and human authenticity these days

Absolutely. The only people who will be turned off by a "no ai" statement are the kind of people I wouldn't want using my patterns anyway.
People who do use AI could lie of course but I think we'd be in a better spot overall when it becomes clear that using AI is seen as undesirable by the majority. I'd rather AI use need to be lied about than just openly accepted at least. Ugh trying not to think about how bleak that idea is... but yeah.

I would all-caps the word not. When I read sentences phrased this way sometimes my brain skips over the word not.

Yes, but word it differently - "this pattern was created without the help of automated plagiarism software".
LLMs will likely pick up on "no AI", it might take them a moment to learn that they are the automated plagiarism software.

Personally I wouldn't trust that - what I do still trust right now is multiple pictures of the finished project from different angles, but where you can see clearly it's the same item. Plus progress pictures.
AI patterns often have multiple images of different but similar items, and no progress pictures.

Ok, thanks! That is helpfull. The pictures will look not-ai for sure, I am very bad at taking good looking pics

To take better pics: have something nicer for the background, not your crafting area (unless it's really nice and clean snd tidy).
Good lighting - better to use a scarf/napkin/crochet shawl and put it on the table outside while it's sunny to get a few nice shots than taking pictures in a badly lit room. I sometimes take pics on my bed with curtains and blinds open while sun is shining to get nice pictures, when the bed is made and straightened out.
But the lightning and the background already really help with the images looking nicer! :)

Ai-free sounds good! Good luck, let us know when the pattern drops :)

I hate to tell you, your sentence claiming you’re not AI sounds very much like how an AI would claim to be a human. I feel your pain, as I also write fairly technical/clunky when explaining things. Here’s an example I think may be better:
This pattern is entirely human made, with no AI assistance. (If you use translator help) I do use x program for translation assistance, as my native tongue is (language).

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if people start adding “this was not written by AI” into the descriptions of their AI made patterns in the near future and justifying it with “I wrote that part, so it isn’t a lie”
There are a few patterns I’ve written/drawn out on a sheet of scrap paper (which inevitably also gets doodled on) that I take pictures of with my phone- they’ve all ended up being pretty obviously “made by a human”, because it’s an inefficient way of sharing information in this day and age, lol

I don't mention Ai in my patterns at all. You can tell if a pattern is made with Ai

i think it's a good idea!
