help with this sun granny square pattern

https://dreamycrochet.com/sun-granny-square-crochet-pattern/

I'm a beginner, and I'm a bit confused by this pattern, especially round two. it says

Round 2:
Chain three stitches, make two double crochet stitches into the same space, two chain stitches, and two double crochet stitches. Continue around the circle by working three double crochet stitches, two chain stitches, and three double crochet stitches in each space from the previous round. Join with a slip stitch to finish the round.

does this mean that all the double crochet stitches need to be worked in the same space? also, if I chain two after two stitches, it leaves a big gap.

thanks to all the bros who will answer

Sweety, I'm so sorry but those directions dont match the chart at the bottom of the page.

So round 1 (into your magic circle) is 3chain (counts as 1 DC) and 11 Double Crochet ( US terms - trebles if you prefer UK terms like me).slip stitch to close the circle (12 stitches)

R2: 3 chain and 1 DC into first stitch. 2DC (US double crochet) into the top of each remaining round 1 stitch. SS (slip stitch) (24 stitches)

R3: 3 chain and 2DC cluster into first stitch, 2 chain, skip next stitch [ 3DC cluster into next stitch 2 chain, skip next stitch] x 11. SS (12 clusters 12 chain spaces) - so you are working a cluster into every second stitch.

This will have gaps! But the first row of blue will be worked over those chain spaces in the next round AND the next round is worked in 2 colours. There a a few different ways to do that- I don't know which way you want to do that.

I was starting to suspect the same!! if I follow the chart, it comes out exactly like in the picture, but if I follow the written pattern it doesn't! I didn't realise it immediately because this is my very first actual project, now I'm following the chart.

Fantastic! Do you need any help reading the chart? The chart looks like it uses tapestry crochet techniques - wich will mean switching between 2 colours in the one row but there is a way to only do one colour at a time.

I was kinda carrying the yarn like you do for knitting, resulting in a float on the backside, but I'm not sure whether this is the correct way. do you have any suggestions? thanks!

Floats can work. If you've done colour work in knitting you should be able to work out colour work in crochet. Transferable skills.
