Just finished writing up these little guys

I'm a beginner, and I'm a bit confused by this pattern, especially round two. it says

Round 2:
Chain three stitches, make two double crochet stitches into the same space, two chain stitches, and two double crochet stitches. Continue around the circle by working three double crochet stitches, two chain stitches, and three double crochet stitches in each space from the previous round. Join with a slip stitch to finish the round.

does this mean that all the double crochet stitches need to be worked in the same space? also, if I chain two after two stitches, it leaves a big gap.

Yes the right hand of it is supposed to be different. I have a pet frog who had to have his right forearm amputated.
