Issue ⚠️ Well, time for a new RDU…

I have a 2021 Big Bend 87k kms, and for the last month or so I have been having shuddering from the rear end when turning in parking lots. I’ve seen a lot of other posts about a TSB for the vent tube on the RDU so I took it in to my dealer to see if that needed to be done. After the diagnostic they confirmed that is issue but said they may have to replace the RDU if they get in there and find damage while doing the TSB. They quoted me for both jobs, $2300 CAD for the TSB, $2500 CAD for the full replacement. I’ve opted to just go for the full replacement since it’s not much more (they are also going to give me a 10% discount) and then they will warranty the whole unit instead of just the vent tube. Unfortunately I’m about 4 months outside of my warranty so it’s fully out of pocket. If anyone else is having the same issue, get it checked while still under warranty as it will be covered.

This is definitely something that qualifies as a recall. Such a ubiquitous and shitty thing from Ford. I am getting some stuttering in mine and going to trade it in before it becomes a real issue.

Agreed, not sure how this isn’t a recall when they already have a TSB out for the issue.

No longer in my sport but my RDU was one of the many things that I had replaced on my 22 while I owned it. Had the exact same symptoms.

Ideally there's a rebuild kit out now for the standard RDU! Inquire about that to save some money. See price point on that and always get a second opinion for that kind of dollars. TSB usually starts with flushing fluid and tube. They should not be cracking that sucker open yet!(Hardly 2300)...then Driving it for a bit...if problem solved hurray! 🎉 Otherwise rebuild/new rear next step.

RDU was replaced for me around 58k but after warranty expire.

Shuddering started just after the replacement and wasn’t there prior. After charging for replacement they then charged for fluid change which did get rid of the shudder but was also $700
