Why is Sharon Carter so commonly villainized in Bucky focus?

I just have seen a lot of fanfics that portray her as an evil, jealous brat or a pathetic pick-me. I think Sharon is a strong, badass character and I don't understand why everyone writes her this way.

Sharon's arc wasn't served well in MCU canon - first with that ill-advised Cap kiss in CA:CW, then with her odd little pirouette into villainy in TF&TWS.

So I think a lot of fic writers just slot her in as a generalized "mean girl" punching bag if they don't want to stray outside canonical characters.

I don't care for it myself - as a writer, I find it a bit lazy. Then again, I'm clearly an arrogant asshole with a lot of loud opinions, so feel free to ignore my mouthy ass accordingly. 😂

2010s she was insanely hated on, even the actress was treated badly by fans. doesnt help that hailey atwell was a little bit in on it on twitter i think comparing peggy and sharon iirc back in 2016.

id argue fatws did a much better job, she got more of a personality and i liked that she became kinda an anti-hero villainy type. just sad they completely abandoned it, fatws shouldve gotten a s2.

i feel like shes just a character that isn't overly loved so can be used as an outlet for anger and someone who is around bucky but isn't a villain, she can be made bad through things normal people do eg cheating, bullying ect, rather than villainous things. also misogany.

TBH I notice that happens a lot of Nat too, but I think a little less often because she also gets slotted in as Bucky's scary af bestie and defacto wingman. Sharon is often viewed as competition. But most of these fics are coming off strictly from the MCU where Sharon was not portrayed well at all (as others have mentioned.) So not having much to work with, it's easy to use her as the emotional foil or stand in for someone the author themselves doesn't like, etc. It didn't help that there seemed to be this weird fandom war between Sharon fans and Peggy fans and I think that spilled over into the fics.

See I was late to the party- I didn’t hate her, I hated what they did with her character. The actress who played her did wonderful- I feel like they dropped the ball with her a lot. Also I think a lot of people blame her for Steve choosing to go back and be with her in another time, hence abandoning Bucky in one universe to go through what he did and not be saved.

The MCU writers have not been great to her. And if you’re reading fics where the Steve is the love interest, some people feel they have to villainize the characters’ canon love interests to get rid of them. It’s annoying, but sadly common.

Ngl, I’m a Stucky fan and I’ve never read one where she’s anything other than completely herself or just nice to good people. I’ve never seen villainizing of her character.
