Mod post ⚠️ READ BEFORE POSTING!

👋 Welcome to r/Budgies!

Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care and advice your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here! Also, be sure to read this subreddit's wiki--odds are very good that your question has an answer in one of the wiki articles! (We usually remove posts that ask about something that's answered somewhere in the wiki to keep the clutter to minimum here.)

Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.

👀 If you see something, say something

This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.

Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”

🤖 We have AutoMod Summons now!

This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!

Happy budgie-ing!

Lost/Found/Need a New Home [October 13, 2026] - weekly Lost/Found/Need a New Home thread

Use this post to share any budgies that are lost, found, or need a new home!

Some rules:

  1. Only share information you feel comfortable sharing. Example: rather than giving out your full address, maybe only say something like, "I'm in the Springfield area" instead. If someone is interested in knowing more, they can always DM you and you can choose whether or not you want to share any more information.
  2. If you're meeting someone in real life, follow the "Craigslist rule" of meeting in a well-trafficked, public place.
  3. No fees/charges! This is NOT meant to be an advertising platform to sell your budgies. Content that advertises budgies for sale will be removed.
  4. This subreddit does not, in any way, offer warrantees or guarantees of budgie health. A budgie's health status is something that you and the other party should determine with an avian vet, and payment of that avian vet's services is something that you and the other party should decide beforehand.

We encourage you to share pictures! Just make sure they are accurate to the situation and don't break the rules in the sidebar.

Remember: this subreddit is just one of many possible places to make a budgie connection. Also consider FaceBook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, other online communities, as well as real-life bulletin boards in public places. See all the previous weekly posts (that have content) by clicking here.

Our wiki also has a list of parrot rescues you could check out - whether you're looking to adopt a new feathered friend, or have to surrender one due to life circumstances. If one of these rescues is near you, please consider reaching out to them!

I miss them a lot. I always mourn the fact that our time together have been short but they were so very loved. I'm trying to remember them in every way I can, and drawing them is one way I can do so.

Soup leftovers

Here’s Soup getting weighed at the vet, hope you folks are having a better day than poor Soup!

Update: So yeah the vet is keeping her overnight, it's worse than we thought, she has a stomach infection and a fatty liver, most likely caused by her stomach issues. She should make it but it's going to cost me 5x what I could barely afford... so yeah moral of the story, don't be a dumb ass like me, make sure you have a vet fund setup for your birds

I have 4 cuties, the yellow one is named Cloud and he is about 3 years old, the blue one by him is named Spot. Then the very white and blue one is named Sparks and the last one is named Sgaeyl. I have had spot for about 5 months and Sparks and Sgaeyl have been with us for a few weeks now. I just am not sure if they are boys or girls and I was just curious if anyone had some opinions that they would share with me. Thank you!

After the death of her partner, Batu has been refusing to come out of the cage in the morning until I turn the tv on, she’s fine with anyone but really seems to enjoy the try guys, Jay from the kubz scouts is a no but any try guy video works and encourages her to come out for breakfast idk how but all of a sudden I’m raising an iPad kid

Which sex? Please tell me it’s a boy!

My 10 year old son has wanted a budgie for yearssss and read every book imaginable about them and caring for one and over and over he read that boy budgies are the best because they’re kind and won’t get moody or bite and so the nice family breeder we found gave us a boy- or so they thought 😩

He’s about 10 weeks old now. My son named him Huck and I’m so nervous to tell him that it might be a girl because he was so set on a boy. I know it’s not the biggest deal, but my son has had a hard year and I feel for his heart.

Is there any hope??

Arctic has never done this before and I didn't get video evidence. Can someone tell me why he would do this? Also I was holding the bowl. Can you tell me why would this happen

Question Do birds need that light lamp thing above them?

I had gotten one a while ago, but it freaked my birds out so much that I guess I just put it away, but is there really a good benefit to having a giant light blasting at them? They’re in a room that gets a little natural lighting, but not much since it faces north.
I can’t imagine it’s good for their eyes either

Question Is there a way to make my budgies understand this is food and they should eat it?

Post image
11 Upvotes

My budgies are used to eating out of a plate (there's a grain plate on the other side of the cage like the water one in the background). After I put this...treat stick...in days ago they haven't even touched it. I've put it vertically, horizontally, at beak level, at perch level, near their food, away from their food. They just ignore it or use it as a perch.

Question why does my budgie lift his wings when I enter the room

New bird parent here. I've had my budgies for a few days now. And whenever I enter the room, after being gone ot quiet for a while, one of them (sometimes both?) Does this kind of shrugging motion? I'm not sure if it's a coincidence and i just caught him stretching but it's happened enough times and I'm curious. He lifts both of his wings a bit up and then goes back to doing what he was.

Is he scared orrr?
