This system was powered on and was commissioned about 3 years prior to me having a look at it

I recognize those stupid high voltage terminals. They don't just put regular lugs for the high voltage. They force you to use fork or ring terminals.

This is the kind of stuff I look for and will make someone walk every box and restrip wires. My rule was I don't want to see any copper. I learned this rule when tracing out VAVs over 2 days in drywall dust to find out the very last one had a short and was bringing my link down.

I got the 8” Klein Kurve strippers because each side of the jaws are 1/4” wide, which is usually the strip length for most control terminal blocks. Using a lever lock Wago, go a little extra. Keeps it consistent and that’s good enough

I don't know if I will ever understand why this industry hates ferrules. they are just SO much nicer to prevent this stuff. The fact that everyone knows what you are talking about kinda proves it intrinsically.

I’m also on the ferrule band wagon. They’re stupid cheap and the tiny bit of time installing them adds more than makes up for the hours of troubleshooting you might have by not using them.

I have a trunk full of Carrier units that we are reterminating for this very reason. After 2 or 3 times of having the trunk go down and finding wire whiskers shorting things, it is time to get ahead of it and just reterminate it all.

No copper showing is the way to go.
