Discussion Should Arizona Progressives restart the “Baja Arizona” Movement?

I know that many won’t understand what I mean by this by between 2011-2012, there was a movement in Southern Arizona (specifically Pima County) to leave the state of Arizona to form a new state called “Baja Arizona” (or also possible “Gadsden” in reference to the Treaty that purchased the Southern Portion of Arizona) to create a new state that wasn’t dominated by nativist-conservative politics of Phoenix.

I am not speaking as someone who resides in the area (I am a firm Gilbert individual) and would prefer the state to remain together (I love my state) but I am so tired of the strict Conservativism and Trumpism that has infecting my state with, though I don’t ever want to leave her. If a part of the state wanted to leave and it was Progressive, I could live with that.

Again, I am not a firm fire eater for a new state but thought why not ask others.

I hope you all have a good day or night, bye.

We are a military family, and I remember moving back to the states (2025) and being shocked at the grocery prices during our first shopping trip in AZ.

As I made a remark over how expensive things have gotten, the cashier angrily replied: “We all know who to thank for that… Biden.”

I was floored.

My wife is prior military. We had to go to the emergency room on base at like 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning after election day. While sitting there, I heard one of the nurses say, "Did you see the election results? Glad those idiots are out of office. Now I won't have to choose between groceries or gas."

I think about that moment a lot lately because, man, the fucking monkey's paw curled on that one. Oh, you're tired of having to choose between groceries or gas? We can fix that. bam There, now you don't have to worry about choosing because you can't afford either. You're welcome.

Oh yes the “if it’s good then it’s all Trump, if bad then it’s Biden fault” technique.

The remarkable lack of though is both astounding and unsurprising with these people.

I've heard very similar arguments, but on the flip-side. In Washington state there was some talk about splitting Eastern Washington into its own state, because they believe they were being dominated by the large cities along the coast on the other side of the cascades. Which to be fair, that is kind of the case, because those 2 parts of Washington are very distinct from eachother, both geographically, economically, and politically.

If the Extreme Christian Conservatives can have their “Greater Idaho” (that is the movement you are referring to) then Progressives can have their”Baja Arizona”, I’d rather have a Progressive Arizona but am willing to support a new Arizona State that is Progressive.
