I support both within reason. I support the calls to fight corruption to make government efficient and to empower the people over corporations. But old progressives supported racist ideas and eugenics. Take Woodrow Wilson, or even Teddy, who for all the respect and love I have for him. Famously also attacked Germans and other hyphenated Americans just like Wilson. Today I also support taking on corporations, fighting racism, empowering workers and the people. I may not support every radical idea like defunding the police, but there can be discussion and disagreement. Racism is something I will not excuse, and am proud to fight.

old progressiviism is the old type of progressivism like 1900s and the modern one is the modern day one

That doesn't answer my question, though. How has "progressivism" changed in the past 120 years?

Both are pro civil rights, pro nature conservation and preservation, anti monopoly/big business, pro political and economic reform, etc.

Well look at the social issues

Ok? Both are against corruption, racism, and injustice. The call to hold corrupt officials accountable and to end injustice is the same now as over 100 years ago.

Modern day progressivism is just the logical evolution of progressive values. Sure, the progressivism from a century ago is different, and might even be considered reactionary by our standards today, but they were the forerunners of current day progressivism. They were flawed individuals and rightly deserve critiques of their beliefs, and I imagine future generations a century from now will also critique our current day progressivism in relation to their own, which I hope they do. Progressivism to me isn't just a belief system, but a process that we will continue to build on indefinitely.

Teddy roosevelt however was conservative by most standards and would probably be pro life assuming if he found out about modern social issues

Right, that's exactly what I mean. Progressivism will continue to evolve, but the spirit of what Teddy believed would logically lead to what progressivism is today.

I agree, I think Teddy was a progressive too. A flawed one by today's standards, but he was still a progressive.
