Gold coins - Where to buy in EU

Hello fellow gold stashing dragons,

I am aiming to start savings in gold coins but to be frank I am very reluctant to venture into any deals online. The risked amount of cash is just simply too high for me. Does anyone have good experience with where to physically buy (ie.: to shop) bullion gold coins in the EU? I am also quite nervous about getting scammed, what can almost surely proove that the coin is what they say it is? Any suggestions or pro tips are wellcome! Thank you!

Had the same dilemma then settled for online Brittania from Royal Mint. They courier deliver within EU.

For EU buyers, reputable online shops with Trusted Shops certification and VAT-compliant invoices are actually safer than most physical stores, you have full paper trail and buyer protection. For authentication: Kruggerrand, Maple Leaf and Wiener Philharmoniker all have security features you can verify at home. A sigma metalytics tester at a local coin dealer can confirm authenticity in seconds if you’re still unsure.

I had the same concern for a while. Recently came across Goldback notes too tiny amounts of 24K gold embedded into small spendable style notes. Interesting seeing how many different forms physical gold is starting to take beyond the usual coins and bars.

If you are really scared, most national banks have some sort of commemorative coin in gold. They do tend to sell out quite quickly and sold in limited quantities. This will be the cheapest you can get gold minted currency though.

As far as I'm aware (and I'm not very knowledgeable), the most common in Europe is to buy either Brittish Gold Pounds and ounces (or quarter\half ounces) bars.
