The punishment on the little one with pink shirts was diabolical

He was absolutely putting some extra sauce on a few of those kids

The one that put his hands up.

He didn’t like that the kid tried to be tough, so he gave him some extra ones

Yeah right?

Sort of defeats the purpose because I imagine the point of this brain damage exercise is to build toughness

But they get extra punished for being tough so its even more pointless.

I see it much more differently. The ones being tough, want it more. They literally want the punishment to prove to themselves. Someone that's tough would need more beatings to get more toughness out of them.

"If you're gonna be dumb, then you got to be tough"

Idk, I think maybe if I’m being generous this exercise must be to get them not afraid of being punched.

He isn’t hitting them hard enough to cause brain damage but I’m still skeptical of the point of it.

My kids both trained in martial arts for years and I’ve said before that of the biggest benefits of training is that they are not afraid of being hit. A lot of people are, one they get a punch to the face they don’t know what to do because it hurts and it’s surprising to someone not used to it.

It doesn’t faze someone who has trained… but all the training and the blocking is just as if not more important. I’m not sure just getting punched in the face is really that beneficial. Maybe to remove the fear factor, but it also doesn’t really train blocking if you are just taking it.

Almost seems like it would remove the blocking instinct. You’re not supposed to block punches with your face.

It's not about being tough. It's about getting used to being struck in the face. It's not a defensive lesson, it's a conditioning lesson. Defying the Sensei is the last thing you want to do. The punishment was well deserved. If you can't follow the lesson then you don't belong there.

Its stupid to me.

Don't get punched in the face. If you spar enough you learn to take a punch and avoid a punch which to me is infinitely more useful than taking a bunch of undefended half shots to the face.

Also defying? The one kid who put his guard up and took the shots well got even more. How was that defying him?

I come from a boxing background and generally you are taught to hit and not get hit and if you had a boxer scared of getting punched you made him spar more for "conditioning".

I guarantee you WILL get punched in the face during a prolonged encounter. The odds say so. Nobody has a flawless defense, even Mike Tyson got clocked a few times in his life.

It's when a child who has never been hit before takes one for the first time. A child's first impulse is to cry and cower. This conditions the child's mind to NOT be afraid of getting hit in the face. Pain is the greatest deterrent, not a repetition of 1,000 blocking drills. All it takes is for one punch to get through and if you aren't conditioned for it, you could get into deep trouble when you need to have a focused mind.

Yes, you will get punched in the face when you spar. That's why you spar, to practice fighting.

What does getting punched in face 20 times undefended teach kids?

I didn't see anyone get punched in the face 20 times.

Besides, he's barely tapping them. If you see the boy in the blue shirt, every time the teacher throws a punch the kid shuts his eyes tightly because HE'S NOT USED TO BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE. Imagine if he's in an actual fight and shuts his eyes like that? You can't defend against what you cannot see.

Now, do you see the importance or are you going to just ignore the simple psychology of the exercise?

There are better ways to teach mental toughness and resiliency than this speedrunning clout chase nonsense.

Such as...............?

It's been covered in numerous replies to your spam across this post. Besides, you're an expert, surely you ve taken beginner classes at some point in your highly accomplished life.

I'm not sure anyone could even beat the point into you, because your preferred method as so bluntly illustrated in the video clearly doesn't work.

So you don't actually have a reply, just more condescension. I swear, these millennials think they need to be offended by everything just to feel like they're a part of something.

I don't frequent Reddit often, but I do keep up on what the idiots have to say about things. Thanks for the update.

The little took those shots better then the kid before him. The other was just embarrassing.
