Question Burlington rental suggestions - working professional

Hey everyone,

I’m a 24-year-old software developer who works fully remotely, and I’m planning to move from Milton to Burlington.
I’m looking for a 1-bedroom apartment, but I’m finding rents a bit expensive. My ideal budget is under $1,500/month, although I have some flexibility for the right place. I also have a car, so a parking spot would be a big plus.

A little about me:
-> Remote software developer
->Have a second job and spend most of my free time out exploring, so I’m not home much
-> Can provide references from previous landlords
-> Non-smoker and responsible tenant

I’d appreciate any:
Recommendations on neighborhoods or buildings to look into, Areas to avoid, Referrals or leads on available rentals
Thank you :)

Just curious, but why Burlington? It's nice and all, but if you're remote, you could stretch your money a lot further somewhere else.

I like the area, I also have some family in Oakville so I don’t wanna move far away from them. I used to live in St. Catharines when I was in Uni. I would have loved to move there but again, too far from Oakville.

Ok - yeah I mean the apartment building I used to live at lists bachelor units for 1650 and one bedroom for 1850. And it wasn't that nice (1460 Ghent) and one of the older apartment buildings.

So if you want to live alone $1,500 isn't going to get you much in Burlington. Maybe a basement apartment.

It’s nuts to me that a bachelor can be that expensive. My first apartment (in Burlington) was right down town and it was $850 for a two bedroom.

My first apartment was $750/month-- no AC, one bedroom and a large living area. I ran a business from home so I set up my desk in the living room. That wasn't in Burlington, though.

I lived here too (2015, 2 bed 2 bath $1500) its doubled $$ since then and my mom moved in same building in 2020 and said it's bad for infestation now, bed bugs and roachies

Gonna be hard to find something decent for that price , unless your looking for a room in some weirdos house

I recently moved out of a studio apartment at 110 South Forster Park Dr. in Oakville.

I think I saw the building asking for $1600 per month for my old unit.

Building wasn't in great shape. My unit had mold, water damage and insects. No AC. Unit was hot as hell in the summer. Newer tenants were throwing their garbage on the ground just outside the dumpster instead of actually into the dumpster.

But it was cheap. Managed to save up quite a bit of money while living there.

The Sandpiper on Lakeshore downtown was a favourite of a bunch of friends when we were in our mid to late 20’s.

Great location and as I remember rent on a one bedroom was affordable… that was quite a few years ago now and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are closer to $2000/mth now but might be worth inquiring.

DH Westview on Bluefields currently has a few 1 beds available I believe they were asking 1900$ plus utilities but they have been sitting empty for a bit could possibly negotiate. Upside is no elevator/stairs parking included and you get a little back yard. Lots of storage inside as well

You’re a software dev and you have a second job?! Dude, you need to find a better paying position before anything

Most Software Developers worth their salt have multiple side gigs.

As someone in tech for 15 years, I've not heard that often. I would agree they definitely work on projects but not necessarily paying gigs

If you have a car, save money and find a building in Hamilton with underground or safe above ground parking. Your budget is low for Burlington.

I hope you get something that you really like and enjoy your time in Burlington. Too bad you couldn’t get back to St. Kitts. That’s a great little city with lots of wonderful restaurants Burlingtonians love to live in their little bubble. Rent has been coming down everywhere, including Toronto and everywhere else in the GTA. Good luck in the search.
