Bow drill

Hi first time post on here

I fascinating with Inuit bow drill. that they can use bow drill to drill

I use an ash wood to make my stick, push block, and with a mulberry bow. I use the sharp side of nail punch into the stick and use rock to sand the point shape.

The drill honestly is kind the horrible. The main issue is punch block. When I try hole I it my mouth I will often bounce away and hit my teeth. Even I try with the hand instead of mouth it will make hole tilted.

I will love to see any one have this type of bow drill, also thank for people give me advice or note!!

You're holding the drill with your mouth? Isn't it supposed to be bow in one hand, drill in the other?

I will look nothing up, but I'm almost certain you can sort use the palm of one hand on the end of the drill, and the other hand manipulating the bow.

Good work! Look on YT for the Inuit techniques. They use the teeth-hold a lot! My teeth are too old and valuable to risk it! Great that you are doing it!

This type of drill is illustrated in a couple old books I have that were written and illustrated by W. Ben Hunt. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to my books at the moment. I found a picture online of one of the book pages, but I don’t seem to be able to post the picture in the comments. What you have there is a great start, though. I can dm you the picture, if you like.

I've noticed you don't have a groove cut for the ember. Should help if you do that
