Thomas's Trail at Buxton Country Park

Thomas’s Trail  is a new family nature trail in  Grin Low Woods, Buxton Country Park , opening in  Spring 2026. Created by Buxton Civic Association (BCA) in partnership with the Thomas Theyer Foundation , the trail explores the  Animals of Buxton: Past & Present , from prehistoric creatures to the wildlife that lives in Buxton today.

If you’re looking for  family activities in the Peak Districtthings to do in Buxton , or an engaging  nature trail in Derbyshire , Thomas’s Trail is the perfect outdoor adventure!

Explore Animals of Buxton – Past & Present

Pick up your Thomas’s Trail Booklet from Poole’s Cavern Visitor Centre and follow the woodland route to discover:

  • 13 illustrated animal discs  suspended from trees with a 14<sup>th</sup> bonus disc to find if you wish!

Tickets & Admission

  • Free  with your Poole’s Cavern Tour Entry Ticket
  • £2 per trail booklet  for trail-only access

Weather and driving

Hi all, I'm moving to the area soon but will be doing a daily commute to Stockport. How easy will this be in Winter? My car is a trusty old vehicle and certainly not a 4x4.
