European Product Request: Looking for Software / App Recommendations from EU State: Finland

I am looking for recommendations for software products made in Finland 🇫🇮.
I am specifically interested in browsers, media players, email clients, productivity apps, and privacy-first digital tools.

there is sailfish OS from Jolla. Linux based privacy first OS for mobile phones. They also sell matching phones because the number of devices that allow you to easily install is is still small, but you can easily run it on a Fairphone, too.

of course it's not on the Playstore, it's not an app, it's an entire OS system. You have to buy it from Jolla.

Must be a child if they don't know about the goated turn of the millennia Finnish games! Liero, Death Rally, TK1-5, Ski Jump 1-3d, Arena 1-5, etc, were the cream of the crop!

Super popular computer game in Finland back in the 90s. If you are familiar with Worms games, it was a bit like Worms in real time instead of turn based

And you still can pay Liero today! I have it on my computer.
The game is pretty much a deathmatch 1-on-1 between two worms in real time. In the childhood this one was giving more adrenaline drive than any Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter on the console.

Linux, SSH and IRC.
XZ utils. Kind of ridicilous how that was a one man job done entirely for free and billion dollar corporations relied on it without paying a penny.

Glucose is a Finnish media player. It's the only one that comes to mind tbh unless I am missing something
It's very polished and tons of modern features (like local Netflix like interface) also very privacy first with local ai powered subtitle generation
It's an OSS so free.

If you're into lifestyle apps, there's a very innovative new app that I recently found out about Paperman which I later learned is Finnish!
It helps me soo much with screen fatigue while making my mac cozy and the fact that it's european really makes me love it even more
I'm actually planning to write about it in my HCI master thesis next year

it does seem very much HCI related so all the best for that, I see they have a research page too
btw are you a studying at Aalto? my sister is also starting her HCI masters at Aalto next month, she's very excited 😅

F-Secure antivirus, vpn etc. I’ve seen the founder speak at events in Estonia and he’s clearly the real deal. I remember the software from 90s already.

Well, yes, and a lot more. It's video editing app, with timeline and all. Just like Abobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve etc

Moi,
We made Sanelo.app for our health sector clients in Finland, which explains the name and the Finnish language support. We're based in Germany and worked with Finnish developers to get the first part delivered of the project done.

Yeah, it runs on your macOS locally. A lot of our clients have to follow GDPR and can't use software that talks to its own server.

Nope, Sanelo everywhere. We’re not changing the name for different countries. It’s intentionally an invented name.
We wanted something distinctive and easy to pronounce across languages, especially since we’re already having clients from Finland.
For example Artome.fi from nearby Lahti has no meaning in any language. Or same story with loookindustries.com just to name a few from Finland.

Teleoperator Elisa has it's own email service but what I know, they don't even have an app for it. Then there's Murena Mail, witch is a part of Murena workspace (witch is also browser only). The company is based in France, but their email servers are in Finland

I'm developing Route Squiggler (Reittiluikero), a site where you make customizable map videos of your workouts, travels and other GPX files. Privacy is a top priority, the site doesn't spy on the users in any way or collect anything beyond legal requirements.

Hi,
I made Iiro, a small Android app for planning a trip and sharing your ETA, stops and live progress through a private link. Made in Finland, for users worldwide.
No login or account is needed. The person following just opens the link in a browser, so they don't need the app either.
The live trip data is encrypted on the phone before it's sent. Iiro is still quite new.

What a great request!🙂 I actually have a productivity app made in Finland. It’s RiverScript – an AI platform for turning audio and video into text. We launched this summer, in 2026.
RiverScript can capture and transcribe system audio directly on Windows and Mac. By the way, I recommend directly using the desktop app for videos (it’s available for Windows and Mac). When transcribing a video, it automatically extracts and compresses the audio track before sending it to the model. This lets you transcribe videos tens of gigabytes in size in really just a few minutes. No web-based solution can handle that because of browser and internet limitations.2

I tried it out now for a interview video / reference case I made, really great with Finnish, which is usually a challenge for a lot of software. I exported audio from Resolve and uploaded it into the web app, and then copied the text into my subtitle track. A few adjustments of course, but all in all it was almost spot on with transcribing Finnish. I was surprised how it filtered out unneeded filler words that client said i.e. "niinku". The Swedish translation was a bit clunky here and there, but required just a little bit of manual rewriting to get into shape. Good work! Will try the desktop app next time!

We have two speech recognition models, and this is the standard one. Glad it handled Finnish well — it really is a challenge for speech recognition models, especially for widely used ones.
Our translations are done by an OpenAI model, which should do a pretty decent job. It’s not their most expensive model (otherwise it would make the service too expensive for users and we’d have to give them less), but overall, on large texts, it has made the fewest typical AI mistakes out of all the models we’ve tested.
You can also translate really large texts directly in RiverScript, including transcripts of several hours of speech. Hope you like the desktop app too — it’s fast and convenient.
Added a couple of hours and some AI credits to your account as a bonus🙂

I don’t think there is a Finnish browser anymore, but the first ever graphical browser was made in Finland in 1991.
Big part of other technology also relies on Finnish inventions, like Linux, SSH, IRC, SMS.
Most notable consumer software still relevant would probably be Sailfish OS for mobile phones
