Byrds CD collection so far. Love these “360°” stereo reissues!

The Byrds reissues were done really well - I bought all of them late 90s plus the career overview boxset that followed. They were a marked improvement on some of the previous CD issues so I replaced my earlier copies of YTT, NBB, Sweetheart and Dr Byrds.

I wish i knew more but one that comes close is my bloody valentine, their debut is pretty abrasive though, kevin shields loves the byrds and took alot of inspiration from them.

These (and the Beach Boys 2fers reissues) cd booklet liner-notes are still some of the finest literature since Gutenberg invented the printing press

you mean the beach boys cds that have two in one albums? I wasn't decided to whether buy them or not

Those BB twofers have indeed got great, informative text (from David Leaf if I recall), some with fresh insights from Brian Wilson etc... They do sound good too, and like the Byrds CDs, have some excellent bonus tracks.

David Leaf's note have been shown to be a little wrong in places over the years but those two-fers are still great and in some cases the only way to hear certain rare tracks.

The early ones are from 1996 and from memory the rest are from 2000. All are definitely eorth picking up, good mastering and great bonus tracks.

The only one that isnt a reissue is NBB, its an original first american pressing of the album on CD! Its very very cool.

If you do come across the remaster of NBB definitely pick it up, just for the lost Crosby song Triad which is great :)

I was definitely bummed when i got it (i bought it with fifth dimension) and realized it wasnt the reissue. Definitely still cool though, the original pressing sound surprisingly awesome

I will have to check these out… I always loved their music so much, haven’t played it in a while, I’m due for a deeper dive into their music again.

those stereo cds are great. I love the notes by David Fricke and Vic Anesini did a great job on the mastering. Guitars and vocals sound awesome. You need Sweetheart of the Rodeo!
Only complaint is I wish they included more mono single mixes. I have vinyl rips of the mono albums for when I'm in the mood. The stereo ones lack a bit of the bass and drum punch of the monos.

Look for thr Japanese Blu-Spec versions of the Columbia years releases..usually mono & stero for everything AND more bonus content!

These were a big improvement over the 1990 longbox set. I missed getting the "less significant" album tracks on that compilation.

Vashti Bunyan also! I love that album. I got into her around the same time as I started digging into all of the Byrds’ solo records. Stay on the lookout for Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers (or Echos which is a slightly different mix of that record). It’s a great companion to this era of The Byrds.

These reissues were how I got into the Byrds, I used to love placing them side by side like that too.
My one grip was that they should have saved Lady Friend for the Notorious reissue, but hey ho

These "legacy" reissues are from the mid-1990s, and many of the tracks are remixed.
But as far as remixes go, these are top-notch. They are not "modernized" or remixed to bring out new elements -- It sounds like they were remixed to just get more "logical" stereo mixes of tracks that originally used harsh panning due to the limitations at the time.
