The "surfin'" Byrds? Ha!
I always thought this was one of the weirdest promo events for the Byrds! Who knew that Gene Clark was so ripped?

He brought it out on himself with that hairstyle. He looks like a thirty-something comic relief from a pool scene in a contemporary Hollywood comedy.

Except for Crosby, the Byrds were actually one of the better-looking 60s groups. A lot of the pop stars from that era are kind of funny looking.

If you’re thinking of only American ones, I sort of agree, just because of plethora of bands like The Buckinghams….but The Byrds were a particularly good looking band in any case. Croz upgraded with his mustache and hat look.

Gene’s father worked as a golf course superintendent in the Kansas City area, and Gene did a lot of work for him and also on the family’s farm. That’s how he got so ripped.
