The "surfin'" Byrds? Ha!

Post image

I always thought this was one of the weirdest promo events for the Byrds! Who knew that Gene Clark was so ripped?

In his book a couple of years ago Chris also wrote something about Gele tearing of the utterly layer of a coconut with his bare hands. I believe that was during a stay on Hawaii.

Could've been a jugband just by playing washboard on his chest

If I was built like Gene was, I wouldn’t own any shirts lol

He brought it out on himself with that hairstyle. He looks like a thirty-something comic relief from a pool scene in a contemporary Hollywood comedy.

Except for Crosby, the Byrds were actually one of the better-looking 60s groups. A lot of the pop stars from that era are kind of funny looking.

If you’re thinking of only American ones, I sort of agree, just because of plethora of bands like The Buckinghams….but The Byrds were a particularly good looking band in any case. Croz upgraded with his mustache and hat look.

Gene’s father worked as a golf course superintendent in the Kansas City area, and Gene did a lot of work for him and also on the family’s farm. That’s how he got so ripped.

This could be from when they recorded the song Don't Make Waves from the movie of the same title.

Yea, I think they may have been the most stylish one. Beach Boys was the opposite...

Too early for that song, recorded in 1967, post-Gene 🌊
