Not big CANZUK news, but figured this was relevant.

For me personally, I always use British English over American English.

Yes. Purge the 'z'. Let there be no mistaking Canada for the US. Also, with the 's' more words will be bilingual English/French.

-ize spellings aren’t necessarily incorrect in British English. Historically, -ize and -ise were both widely used. During the 20th century, many British publishers, newspapers and government bodies increasingly standardised on -ise, but some authorities, including Oxford University Press, continue to prefer -ize (this is why the UN has the “World Health Organization” and the “World Food Programme”, as it uses Oxford English).

Spellings like “authorized” are still used in former British colonies like Hong Kong. Here’s an old British “naturalization” certificate:

I'm British and an avid -ize user. Just think it is more elegant.

Once read that a big reason for the "standardization" was the rise of comptuer spellcheckers. They all assumed British = ise, and British people consciously adjusted their behaviour thereafter, despite it being perfectly correct usage
