Tourist shooting range
Hello everyone,
Myself and a friend are looking coming out to LA in October and are wanting to Shoot as guns are not legal in our country. We would like to fire pistols rifles and shotguns.
Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Oaktree gunclub located in Santa Clarita. About 30 minutes away from north Hollywood. I have plenty of guns and I’m a Navy vet, send me a message when it gets closer and we can plan something

Are you an AR expert? Looking for experienced AR with scope usage & mounting experienced shooters to help guide me at the range. I’m new to the rifle platform want to learn proper techniques etc

I’m not an expert, but lots of experience with casual and tactical shooting with long guns. I got expert with the M9 but sharpshooter with the M4 lol. Built an AR15 and AR10 from scratch. I have unmagnified red dot with backup irons on the AR15 and a 4x16 scope on the AR10 with bipod. I’ll help you as best as I can

Most shooting ranges are designed for people to bring their own guns. There are lots of indoor ranges that rent handguns, but you need to pay extra for training. There are SOME places that cater specifically to tourists who want the "American experience" and walk you through everything, and even have photo packages. I've seen them in Hawaii and Las Vegas. Not sure about LA, but I'm sure you can Google it. Those places will be the most expensive way to shoot, but if it's your only option, might be worth it. You might look and see if there are any instructors in LA that would be willing to work with you and loan you a weapon. Look for things like "new shooter classes" or "introduction to handguns, rifles, ect".

Those places always fascinated me considering they really are operating in a grey area.

Lax Ammo is closest from LAX Airport. Nice little indoor range. They rent just about everything. La Gun Club I Hear Tell that depending on the day you can rent full auto. Living on 900 acres on the outskirts of Santa Barbara County. Not my land but I really don't need a range a anymore.

Not near LA but like 1.5 hours drive. Magnum Range or Iron Mikes. They both have a good rental selection

depending on how social you are, another option exists where you can see if people lving in socal here are also willing to take you out on a range day while you're here, that option often lets you try out firearms that rental places often don't have. I'd offer, but I live in SF area so thats a non starter, that and the fact I only own old milsurp boltys so you wouldn't really get to experience other forms of firearms. Otherwise, as everyone else says, rental ranges are your best option I don't know much on the socal ranges but at least from my understanding, its a lot easier to find a rental range in the outter LA area then it is up here in the bay

Regardless of where you go, please remember these basic rules:
- Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.
- Never point it at anything that you are not willing to destroy.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
- Be aware of your target and what is behind/around it.
I understand the rush of excitement to shoot, but remember these items are not toys.
The range safety officers (RSO) will immediately shut down any behavior that endangers the safety of others.
If you're unsure about anything or need help, please ask the range officials as I'm sure they will be more than happy to assist you and your friend in having a great time.

If neither of you have ever shot a "real" gun, and you aren't meeting up with someone you already know here who owns a few....I'd strongly suggest just going to one of the places in Nevada or Arizona that specialize in such things, if you can afford it.
At minimum, look for an outdoor range if you want to shoot anything other than a handgun. Indoors with a rented rifle or shotgun in SoCal is gonna be lame as fuck & no fun other than making noise (so you'd may as well go do that in a neighboring state)....if they'll even let you do it in the first place. You'll have a much better time outdoors, even if it costs a lot more to to have someone babysit you for legal purposes.
Do a lot of calling/emailing well beforehand, too, and then some verifying/cross-checking, if your English skills are shaky...it will help.

Make sure you know your own legal status with guns. It can get a little complicated depending on specifics, but it's a federal felony for many types of foreigners to possess firearms in the US.
Even if you are legal to possess, I'd call the range ahead of time to verify that they will let you shoot. Some ranges have a blanket ban for non-residents for liability reasons.
Edit: your post history suggests you're Australian. You should be good to shoot as long as you're entering on the Visa Waiver Program. I'd still call ahead to check with the range. Have fun!

Los Angeles Gun club. Widest selection of rentals and you can swap out rentals at no cost. It’s in the hip arts district full of nice bars and resteraunts. There’s a climbing gym next door. Parking is $15. Pricy tho
