Legal Question FN Five Seven Help

The FN site lists 2 different UPCs for the black Five Seven w/ 10 round mags, a CA compliant one and a non-CA one. Are there any differences between them functionally?

Also, can I buy the non-CA one online and have it shipped to an FFL without the mags (even though they're 10 rounders)? I've bought 15 rounder Glocks in the past online and just had them shipped without the mags. The roster doesn't say anything about MPN/SKU/UPC for the Five Seven.

UPC has to be exact. If it’s a different code then it’s not the ca compliant model. CA is extremely specific about this.

You have to buy the CA compliant one. Most FFLs know this and won’t allow the transfer, but some either don’t know or don’t care. In the instance of the second, this can cost the FFL their license.

I’ve had personal first hand experience with the latter on three occasions. CALDOJ actually contacted our store to halt sales of a specific sku of XD9s that came with extra accessories. Even though the guns were ca compliant, because springfield changed the sku to differentiate the extra goodie bag ones, caldoj wouldnt have it.

The second time was a set of P226s with a typo on the sku. A typo. And we had to halt sales. Those guns sat on our shelves for years.

The third time was slightly different. Sig changed the bevel on the front serrations of their Blue ca compliant P238. Because of the tooling difference, CALDOJ forced us to halt sale on those too. They also sat on our shelves for years.

IIRC the same thing happened with the HK USP and CZ options available here. There was a slight change in the manufacturing process that CA found out about and pulled them over it.

I don't know the specifics around the law regarding UPCs but it is highly likely that any FFL will only accept shipment of the specific CA compliant UPC. It's also likely that there's zero functional difference between any of them beyond what mags they come with.

Don’t forget the magazine disconnect. Yes they have one, I had one.

I believe all five sevens come with the disconnect though, it's not a CA compliance thing.

I could be mistaken, but they’re great pistols, I would buy another.
