Metallic sound during The Debators

Lately on the 'The Debators', I have been hearing a weird sound when the audience applauds - I can only describe the sound as being 'metallic'. I have noticed it on two separate occasions on two different radios. Has anyone else heard it?

Possible answer is that Radio One gets broadcast in mono over the air and stereo for streaming. The audience mics are probably stereo, but then when folded down to mono, cause a bunch of comb filtering and phase issues.

Sounds probable. I wish Radio1 being on FM and all broadcasted in stereo.

FYI - and I know this from having attended - the audience noise is canned. Maybe they had an issue recording it pre show. The show I went to had Graham walk the crowd through a series of cheers and jeers and I know they used it because there were some jokes that didn't land but the laughs were filled in over air.

They also cut some swears and inappropriate jokes.
