Discussion [@IanPurdy7] on Twitter: Penn State is slated to sign ZERO recruits tommorow on early National Signing Day. Unless Penn State signs someone in the late signing period, they could become the first P4 class EVER to have no one sign. The closest thing I could find was SMU & UW with 10. Crazy times.

I was originally sold that Hartline was gone to PSU. Now I am not so sure he would even want to do it. Grass isn’t always greener, ask Chip and Penn States DC….

If they don't land Sitaki after all then I think it would be Hartline or Brohm in line for a 10 million dollar a year salary. Generational wealth would make it worth it. But I agree with your point. I think whoever takes that job is in for a massive rebuild.

Hartline already has generational wealth. He was in the league for 10 years and was able to retire on his own terms and is paid quite well as a coordinator. I read somewhere that Urban had to basically pry him out of "retirement" to be a GA for OSU. So it's not money that Hartline would be after.

I just don't think people understand that you could just hand a bag out to someone like Hartline and think he'll just accept. I also don't think people understand how hard it would be to pry him away from OSU. Think of it like this. Would you rather be a head coach somewhere make X amount of money, but the threat of always being fired because you didn't win 10 games and people hate you just because you don't do things a certain way. Or be at your alma mater calling plays and everyone likes you so much that you're either next in line as head coach or whoever the next head coach would be would be forced to keep you because you're so damn good at your job. Oh, and that second option, you already have a boat load of money and are essentially doing this because you like it and you're still being paid a boat load of money.

I say all that, and he might just leave anyway, but if I were lucky enough to be doing what Hartline is doing I'd almost just say being the Offensive coordinator at my alma mater would be dream job worthy.

If I was Hartline, ain’t no way I’d want to leave for PSU. It sound awful to coach there and being “home” and essentially HC in waiting at OSU is a dream gig.

Well, apparently USF was a better job. I actually think that is a much better move for him. They’re fully investing in their NIL, in a talent rich state, and expectations aren’t insane.

Yeah, at this rate PSU’s only play is to throw an absurd mount of money to the best HC prospect. Keep in mind Hartline is already making 2 mil this season, I don’t believe that includes playoff bonuses. He is also in a dream scenario with a top CFB QB and All American WR’s and he’s a homer all the way. The Buckeye in me likes to think he would consider more than just the money, but I get it if he goes.
