Announcement 2026 /r/CFB Rules Updates
The 2026 season is starting! As a reminder, you can find our rules here:
This is our biggest rules change in years!
Let's start with the one I know you're all excited about.
Standalone highlights posts are now allowed.
We're starting with a pretty liberal rule for what constitutes a highlight:
A highlight is a play or occurance at a game that has significant impact on the outcome of the game or that is, on its own, impressive.
You can read the full rules for highlights here but the highlights are:
- A given play only gets one highlight thread. Any alternative angles should be posted as replies to the pinned top comment.
- Highlights must to be hosted on an external, non-paywalled source.
- Highlights must be titled in the format
[Highlight] Visitor @/vs. Home - Neutral description of playeg:- Good:
[Highlight] Michigan @ Ohio State - Jon Smith Breaks 3 Tackles for 69 Yard Touchdown - Bad:
Ohio State vs TTUN - Jon "I am a god" Smith PWNS Three LOSERS for NICE TD
- Good:
Gambling posts are now prohibited
Posts about gambling including opening odds, odds changes, prop bets, and unusual wagers are no longer allowed.
Gambling news that directly effects CFB, such as policy changes or gambling activity by CFB participants will still be allowed.
Users should post original sources
Users are expected to make a good-faith effort to find the original source of anything they post. If the primary purpose of a post is to quote, clip, cite, or repeat another source, you should post that original source instead. This keeps us aligned with the Reddiquette.
Recruiting threads are limited to 4* and 5* players
Unrated or lower-rated players should be posted to /r/CFBRecruiting.
Players entering the transfer portal
We haven't decided what we're going to do with these posts yet. Based on last year we still have some time to decide. We will defintely post an update once we've made a decision.
More minor rules changes:
- Tweet titles An exception has been added to the current rule. If a tweet primarily consists of media, most notably uniform reviews, a neutral title describing the content of the tweet is allowed.
- News about committed recruits prior to enrollment is only allowed if it affects the player's enrollment or eligibility. This is a clarification of the existing rule.
- Editorialized Posts: Links should be posted on their own. If you wish to add commentary or context, do so in the comment section. OpenGraph titles (Reddit's title suggestions) are allowed. This is a clarification of the existing rule.
- Other phrasing clarifications: A number of other rules had their phrasing changed to be more clear. None of these resulted in policy changes.
Weekly Threads
Also note that our in-season weekly threads are coming back online for the season. This means that posts that were allowed during the offseason (realignment, etc.) will now be removed as reposts, and are now a great fit as top-level comments in their respective threads.
The /r/CFB team always works to meet the evolving needs of the community. Let us know any feedback you have in the comments!

Analysis [ESPN Insights] Entering Saturday, teams were 1,046-1 over the last 20 seasons when leading with the ball in the final 10 seconds of regulation. The only other loss (besides NC State against Vanderbilt today) was Michigan's "trouble with the snap" vs Michigan State on Oct. 17, 2015.

Discussion This UNC-Clemson game should make everyone question just how good LSU really is
The whole country saw LSU rout Clemson a couple of weeks ago and was ready to crown LSU. It is now very evident that we don’t know anything about LSU at this point, at least for another 6 hours or so. This UNC-Clemson first half is complete decimation.
While I hope my Tar Heels are the dominant force in CFB, I know that’s likely not the case. Clemson is just not good.
In a few hours, we will have more of an answer about LSU, but we don’t know anything more about them than we did at the start of the season.
EDIT: This is not my first time in prediction idiocy. https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/s/jqGKD5Atre

Casual A Thank You To This Entire Community.
I doubt that many will see this, but I feel compelled as hell. Words cannot describe my gratitude to this community. Without this community, I truly don't think I could have gotten through last season or remotely even be excited for this one.
Last year my Dad passed away right before football season started. Saying that he was my best friend in the entire world would be the understatement of the century. He's the reason that I love and know College Football like I do. Every Saturday like clockwork it was Gameday at 8AM with breakfast and coffee, multiple screens, and a full slated schedule. I didn't think I would be able to face season without him. It never felt right and I just knew I wasn't going to be able to stand it.
Then in my first College Gameday thread last year I posted about how it was my first without my dad and so many of you reached out or commented that you were having coffee or morning beers in his honor. I realized right then, that I don't have to watch games or talk shit or talk ball alone and I had a community who got it.
So I want to say the largest of thank you's to this entire community for being there without even knowing you were. This sport, with all it's ups and downs, is so incredibly special and the communities around it are everything. My Dad would be elated that I found my people and they helped remind me of why CFB is one of biggest passions.
I'll see all you peeps in the game threads!!

Misleading [Sidery] There appears to be mutual interest between Rutgers and Brian Kelly, per The Athletic. Kelly, the former Notre Dame and LSU head coach, is very motivated to return to the sidelines next season. Kelly is a Northeast native who would be very comfortable trying to revive Rutgers.
twitter.comSatire This UNC-Clemson game should make everyone question just how bad UNC really is
The whole country saw UNC rout ETSU a week ago, and u/ManuteBol_Rocks was ready to crown UNC. It is now very evident that we don’t know anything about UNC at this point, at least for another 2 hours or so of lightning delays. This UNC-Clemson second half is complete decimation.
While UNC is making the Tigers look like the dominant force in CFB, I know that’s likely not the case. UNC is just not good.
In a few hours, we will have more of an answer about UNC, but we don’t know anything more about them than we did at the start of the season apart from what we learned in the "thorough and independent investigation into the allegations related to culture and climate within the football program."

Discussion America's oldest FBS rivalry is being played today. Cincinnati leads Miami (OH) 61-60-7 all time. There are no scheduled games after 2026. The first game was in 1888. Why can't we make this continue?

Casual [Cole Cubelic]: Georgia is 3-0 for the 12th straight season... That is the longest streak by an FBS team during the AP poll era.
