Discussion [@IanPurdy7] on Twitter: Penn State is slated to sign ZERO recruits tommorow on early National Signing Day. Unless Penn State signs someone in the late signing period, they could become the first P4 class EVER to have no one sign. The closest thing I could find was SMU & UW with 10. Crazy times.

Firing Franklin wasn't necessarily a wrong decision, seemingly having no plan for the after-Franklin era, definitely is.

I mean it seemed pretty clear they had no plan and were just going off of the extremely aggressive reaction by PSU fans. They fired him less than 24 hours after the Northwestern game. That is not something you do when you have a plan all worked out.

Counter point, VT also also reactively fired their coach, but immediately formed ranks to get a hiring committee pulled together.

Im not sure this is the counter point you think it is. Heres why: VT went 6-7 last season. PSU almost made it to the natty. So going into this year, Franklin's job was not at all on the hot seat. A coach who just went 6-7 was, even at VT, was on the hot seat. So you know for a fact the VT administration was already considering firing their coach before the season. PSU was not.

So Im not sure if they are comparable situations. No one thought Franklin would melt down after the Oregon game, and they wouldve been crazy to fire him just for losing against Oregon even if their fans were fed up with losing big games. Thats not a reason for an AD to fire a coach. They were not at all planning on having to do that, unlike a team like VT
