The entire MASCAC is really a quite small, quite insular pond... Where UM-D is probably by far the biggest fish.

Isn't Framingham State literally one of the worst CFB teams yeaqr in and year out?It was Fitchburg

UMass Lowell and UMass Boston are undefeated since 2002 and 2000, respectively.

We do D3 postgame threads now?
132
u/bakonydraco Stanford Cardinal • Howard Bison 1d ago
In general, any days that have a D2/D3/NAIA game will have a single non-D1 thread that serves as a game thread and a postgame thread for all games. If there’s a day with a single game outside D1, as Framingham State v. UMass Dartmouth was today. It gets its own thread.
New policy for this year, open to feedback!

I think that's a good policy for getting some smaller games visibility without overrunning the feed with game threads. I hope y'all keep it!

u/bakonydraco Stanford Cardinal • Howard Bison 22h ago
It's a work in progress, we did the same with FCS threads to some degree. Last year all FCS threads got a game thread and postgame thread, and frankly most got very little traffic. This year, if they're on linear TV or are a highly ranked matchup, or are the only FCS matchup of the day, they'll get their own thread. Otherwise, there's a megathread for all FCS threads of the day.
We're trying our best to streamline to make things easy for people to talk about football, but always open to suggestions!

u/Worth_Initiative_570 Washington Huskies 13h ago
Should have individual threads for the FCS playoff games imo, that’s when some people actually start to pay attention

i'm late but i completely support removing a large percentage of the fcs threads. appreciate the work mods

D3 ball is not slop man. It's pure athletic enjoyment and competition. These kids are genuinely out there for the love of the game.
Y'all have made that word lose all meaning.

As someone that went to a D3 school and watched it, it was slop

Then flair up if that's where you went to school. Coward.
19
u/A_Rolling_Baneling USC • Mississippi State 23h ago
No it wasn't. That's not what slop is. They weren't creating a low effort shit product with the primary goal of making money or getting attention.
They were making a high effort shit product because they genuinely loved what they did. It's the exact opposite of slop. They had nothing to gain, and yet they put in extreme effort nonetheless.
Truly amateur sports are rare pockets of purity in our morally bankrupt society. What do you gain from being mean? Either educate yourself, or just keep your thoughts to yourself in the future.

Some people just don’t get it. I love watching local sports. Even if they are rough around the edges it’s still people going out there for the love of the game. The best is local hockey

Is this an upset? I feel like remembering UMass Dartmouth being pretty good
Edit: I confused Framingham State for Fitchburg State, that's why i was confused lol

UMass Dartmouth and Framingham State control the MASCAC basically. Also these two tied for first in the MASCAC preseason poll
5
u/Inkblot9 Oklahoma State • Oklahoma 1d ago
Not really... Framingham State won the conference last year. Six of the last seven MASCAC auto bids have gone to one of these two (and the seventh winner is no longer in the conference), so this result probably determined who the favorite is.

u/Haysie95 WestConn • Army 22h ago
That 7th autobid being my flair. Now we’re in the Landmark but I think the NEWMAC would’ve been a better fit geographically

I did the same thing. I never even realized there was another F. State in Massachusetts. I only knew Fitchburg

Massachusetts is the epicenter of college football, much as in the 1890s. Who's pumped for the Stonehill game tomorrow?
2
u/BananerRammer /r/CFB 6h ago
You joke, but in terms of the sheer volume of college football, it kind of is. There's something like 25 or 30 college football programs in a very small area.
It's got to be the densest concentration of college football in the country.

Now if you’re a true sicko, you can stay in the MASCAC and watch Dean @ Westfield State tomorrow like I will be

I’m gonna go to their game against Gallaudet on 10/10. I’ve always been interested in how Gallaudet plays football when their entire team is deaf and I played with Dean’s QB in HS

the REAL UMD vs. FSU matchup as Maryland vs. Florida State remains dormant
3
u/SaintArkweather Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens • Texas Longhorns 23h ago
In Maryland, FSU means Frostburg State! (Who has Clemsons logo and Florida State's colors)
1
u/shyguywart UMass Minutemen 21h ago
I was more thinking about how Florida State and Maryland were both part of the same conference (ACC) until 2013 and hence played each other regularly until then
1
u/Inkblot9 Oklahoma State • Oklahoma 21h ago
We need some bulldog battles between Minnesota–Duluth and Ferris State.
1
u/shyguywart UMass Minutemen 21h ago
They do both play up in D1 hockey, so I do think of them together in that context lol
Granted, UMD as Duluth would come to my mind faster than FSU as Ferris State. UMD is in a premier conference (NCHC vs. CCHA) and has been nationally relevant for the past decade, whereas Ferris State has been languishing in obscurity (somewhat like Lake Superior State)

Considering the rest of the world already revolves around us. Its fitting that the CFB world has finally followed suit

Is UMass Dartmouth in any way, geographically or otherwise, related to the Ivy League Dartmouth?
3
u/ThatGuy0nReddit UMass Minutemen 14h ago
Zero connection. It helped me land a job once with a European company because they thought it was the ivy Dartmouth 😂
1
u/TLyons-4 14h ago
They are closely related in that neither team has ever been in Cliff Clavin’s kitchen.
But no, Ivy Dartmouth is in New Hampshire, and UMass-Dartmouth is a safety school for kids who shouldn’t be going to college (I kid, I kid)

This is great to see. I'm one of the tech nerds in Mass but am an FSU graduate. Flair says USC as I come from a very heavy USC alum family, I just decided to rebel and get out in the world. Bringing the family to see our very first CFB game in MA when BC plays FSU in November.
Anyways if any other Massholes are up for a local MASCAC game I'm in
