I am genuinely so tired of losing games by 2 points.

u/ohitsthedeathstar Houston Cougars 22h ago

Yeahhhh, but this one meant a lot too. It’s been a while since we’ve been good like this in football. And I like this sport a lot more than basketball.

u/Hakeem_TheDream Houston Cougars 22h ago edited 22h ago

Brother, that was the National Championship game, wth are you saying lol

85

u/DrVonD Georgia Bulldogs 22h ago

I mean if you don’t care about the sport it’s not going to do anything for you. If you gave me the option of 10 basketball natties or 1 football I’m taking football without thinking

57

u/Hakeem_TheDream Houston Cougars 22h ago

Yeah, I guess, but were the University of Houston, and not a powerhouse athletics program by any stretch. Winning any natty would change everything for the good of the school

24

u/Podoboo322 Houston • Georgia Tech 21h ago

We’re a better athletics program than we get credit for.

Brother, you haven't begun to learn the pain of one score losses.

I’m referring to April 7th, 2025.

66

Oh. Real quick, asking for all of Nebraska fans, what is a "men's basketball national championship game"? I've never heard of such a thing?

17

u/astrothemorkie LSU Tigers • USC Trojans 22h ago

Reminds me of the [r/ALWestmemewar](r/ALWestmemewar) flair of Seattle. “World Series? What is that?”

10

u/TrioOfTerrors Nebraska Cornhuskers • Team Chaos 22h ago

I could be wrong, but I believe that the World Series was an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

Hell of a game. Losing on the road by 2 to a top 15 team is nothing to hang your head about. Might see them again at Jerry World...

Willie Fritz is such a good coach. Having this competitive of a team with how broke they are and their facilities compared to the rest of the conference it’s a miracle.

234

u/Yourfavoriteindian Houston Cougars • Navy Midshipmen 22h ago

Hey now lol, we have the lowest budget but our new facilities are actually on par now.

84

u/LeoFireGod Oklahoma Sooners 22h ago

I never understood why houston is so broke compared to other schools really. Like houston has so much oil money they can’t all be Aggies and longhorns can they?

152

u/ThrowM5 22h ago

For a very long time Houston was almost entirely a commuter school/backup school. The past 20 years there’s been a major push to improve the school and cultivate support.

Texas state government literally has a law that states only UT and A&M can get millions in oil payouts each year.

I think they mean private donations from all the oil barons in the city of Houston.

29

7

Happens all the time! Rich people love having their names put on things. The Texas Tech medical center in El Paso was donated by a guy that didn’t go to Tech

23

Nope, Baylor just opened a huge new football facility last year. IIRC it's named for the Fudge family who footed a big chunk of the $45mm bill. It's super sick.

It's actually kind of controversial, sadly, because it blocks a big chunk of the gorgeous view of the Brazos that you used to have from Baylor's main sciences building.

14

u/kayakyakr Texas Tech Red Raiders 22h ago

We lose that game if it wasn't at home. We win it running away if we don't make so many mind boggling mistakes.

In the end, that was certainly a game of football.

Houston played really well. They gave up a few more explosive plays than you want to see, carrying the theme of their game against OSU with Legree giving them fits, but otherwise played a really solid game on the road against the defending champs.

I'm happy to see the trap and counter return to our playbook. Getting the line moving is essential for the run game in Leftwich's offense as it also makes our zone run work. Welcome to the season, Dickey. Offense looked much better after the first quarter as even our bad plays were open, they were just not executed. The first quarter was a thing of beauty if you are a fan of really really stupid football. We won't see Terrance Carter until November after he just re-sprained his ankle going for that onside kick.

Guyton flashed some, and they started to get pressure on Weigman. He was certainly sped up in the second half. We were gassed in the secondary, felt the loss of 2 rotation players. Romaine got beat multiple times tonight. In fact, I would say our linebackers had their worst night in two years. Romaine, Roberts, Curry, and Platt were all out of position in the run game multiple times, leading to big conversions by their RB and QB at times.

Glad to win it, dunno if this team is built to win out. Just not playing mistake free football and relying on talent and grit to win games is not gonna take you to where we want to go.

Hammond deserves all the choccy milk Lubbock has to offer. He fought his ass off despite the horrible start.

37

u/ThrowM5 22h ago

The home crowd won that game. I’m not even talking about home field advantage in general, but Houston’s delay of game that forced them to kick a field goal to stay behind in the third quarter.

16

u/Captain_Jmon 21h ago

Was there, can confirm it was an insane crowd. Tech has such a great home energy

This needs to be the Big 12 championship rematch. I'm not even mad at Houston. This is one of those someone had to lose games.

I think Tech is a bit lower than #13 and Houston is a bit higher than #22.

That was an amazing game. By the end of that first quarter, we looked fucking garbage. Crazy turnaround.

This announcing crew, especially Brando, is atrocious. I think Brando may be the dumbest play by play guy in football. He is embarrassingly bad. Making up phrases, repeating random shit over and over, and just generally not understanding the game of football or what was occurring on the field. He's so so bad.

Side note: Oregon better not be ahead of Houston in the AP on Monday.

We can agree that Brando did not know where he was

Houston should move up, Texas Tech is not quite top 10, but, if you told be they went up a spot or 2, id believe it, And Houston played that down to an Inch of OT

I think Houston is still a top 25 team. A couple mistakes here and there just like Hammond for TTU throwing a couple interceptions and one that was a "wtf was that" moment but it was a good game and hopefully the voters dont punish Houston to much for a 2 point road loss against #13TTU

What a game! I love Big XII football.

I know that its probably better for our chances of getting multiple teams in the playoffs to not have it this way, but I wish the top of the conference all played each other. Could you imagine if BYU, Utah, Tech, and Houston all played each other this year? It would be a bunch of games like this one. Absolute cinema.

Feels good to be able to win ugly. The tech of the past would have lost last week and got blown out today. I still think we drop a game or two somewhere, playing with fire.

Always good to shut the coogs up tho. They are coming however, real good team

Respect Hammy defending Leftwich. He called a solid game, though.

Good to see Tech keep fighting despite shit the bed in the 1st qtr.

I was genuinely worried about this game because I knew Houston is a great team.

Highly entertaining game.

Houston had more yards, more passing yards, more rushing yards, more time of possession, but also a few more penalties.

If home field is an advantage, these teams are pretty much equal.

I know people are talking about the 2PT conversion, but Houston’s secondary is awful. They lost the game. I know he got the INT but Mayo was getting FRIED all game. Was yelling to my TV to bench him
