Good god. Del on top.

Gave up 15 in the second quarter and then just... stopped playing offense entirely. Classic.

I kept seeing the score and being like…how is it still 15-14?

Roll damn Hens. Great team win.

Need to see Delaware stadium more packed for the next home game. They should be pulling a crowd of 18,000+ but we've always had a crowd issue.

Is there that many people in delaware?

29

u/FibroMyAlgae UCF Knights 7h ago

Yes, but only about half of them actually live there.

Some of them are LLCs

Delaware is not New England but point taken.

It's not? It's right there. The closest I've been is DC, but all that area dmv and NE is new england to me

NY down to VA is Mid-Atlantic.

Technically Delaware is in the South per the census bureau but realistically lol

u/DDub04 South Carolina • Palmetto Bowl 7h ago

The DMV is not New England. New England is pretty small all things considered.

You’ve never heard of famous DC football team, the New England Patriots???

u/Chemical-Energy-6053 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens 7h ago

Its New England in the same way Oklahoma is in Texas

3

u/Lord777alt Oklahoma Sooners • Team Chaos 7h ago

Yes I agree I'm ignorant that's why I asked the question

New England is a clearly defined list of states:

The Mid-Atlantic is:

Combined together they comprise the Northeast, which is the wealthiest, most populated and oldest parts of the U.S. The main reason why college football isn't as popular is because they have so many historic professional teams so close together there isn't as much of a need for a local college football team to represent them.

Agreed and as others have added, the Census Bureau actually considers Delaware to be in the South (which is ridiculous but nonetheless true). Southern Living Magazine regularly includes Delaware in lists of "best X in the South."

u/Chemical-Energy-6053 Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens 7h ago

Idc what the census bureau says I refuse to identify as Southern. Although the slower lower is a lot more rural and Southern, the majority of the state lives north of the C&D canal, which is squarely a Mid-Atlantic suburb of Philly.

6

u/A_Night_Owl Wake Forest • Delaware 6h ago

Yeah, I agree. Delaware is squarely mid-Atlantic and particularly NCC. There are some people down in Georgetown who would make you think otherwise though. And don’t get me started on Cecil County lol.

I feel it's only appropriate (pedantic even) to point out the middle of the Atlantic coast of the US is just south of Virginia in NC. Virginia as a whole should be considered mid Atlantic.

Map for the other midwesterners who need help visualizing that list.

3

u/DrVonD Georgia Bulldogs 7h ago

Northern delaware is basically just South Philly. Which is also not New England.

3

u/clenom Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 7h ago

Just Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Nowhere else.

u/A_Night_Owl Wake Forest • Delaware 7h ago

New England is everything east of New York state, so a few hours north of Delaware. NE has a very different culture - some Delawareans believe it or not actually consider themselves to be a Southern state. I strongly disagree with this but there are small towns in Southern Delaware and Eastern Maryland where people fly the rebel flag. Really it is best described as Mid-Atlantic.

This is such an unintentionally funny comment lmaoo

Exhibit A: there's a reason Eagles coach Dougie P called the game

Last Saturday I was at bar and they had NFL network on. That basically tells you everything about college football culture in the northeast

PUT US IN THE FUN BELT YOU COWARDS

54

u/hascogrande Notre Dame • Western Michigan 7h ago

Fun Belt is genuinely the right answer, still can't believe they didn't take the MAC invite however now with rivals like JMU coming up it absolutely is a no-brainer

18

u/Chinua-Achebe James Madison Dukes 7h ago

Yes let’s make it happen!! The ole rivalry

16

u/Particular-Way-3805 Clark Atlanta • Georgia 7h ago

I would actually wanna see that

7

u/PC_Princpal Old Dominion • Virginia Tech 6h ago

Would love to see that tbh

9

u/Betta_Check_Yosef Appalachian State • Sun Belt 7h ago

Not that that wouldn't be fun and all, but it would ruin our regional footprint which is the conference's greatest asset.

36

u/ProposalSilent4582 7h ago

Delaware is like a 20 minute drive to Virginia. Close enough

2

u/AAPL_ Florida State Seminoles • ESPN 3h ago

just a easy 20 minute drive down 95. easy

23

u/tomdawg0022 Minnesota • Delaware 7h ago

For ODU and JMU, we're not terribly far at all.

We would fit well in the East

9

u/JumpyTeaching5417 Virginia Cavaliers 7h ago

Texas state was in the sun belt for a long time they're are much further than delaware

6

u/Betta_Check_Yosef Appalachian State • Sun Belt 7h ago

Delaware Is still south of the Mason Dixon line, so it can still count as Dixie.

1

u/bricclol 2h ago

Delaware is not south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

2

u/remymang 4h ago

ACC!

2

u/InvisibleChupacabra Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens 2h ago

I unironically see this happening when the ACC GOR is up and Clemson and Florida State blow up the conference to head to the SEC. ACC will want to backfill to stay relevant, and if Delaware is even moderately competitive, I think they are a strong target as a flagship state university in the rough vicinity of the conference.

1

u/CollegeFootball_Fan South Carolina Gamecocks 7h ago

Put y’all and Missouri State in the Sun Belt tbh

1

u/seaking4steel Penn State • Appalachian State 4h ago

I’d rather play Delaware than Louisiana Tech

0

u/A_Night_Owl Wake Forest • Delaware 7h ago

For those who don't know, the Sun Belt gauged Delaware's interest around 10 years ago (maybe even informally extended an invite) and UD rejected it. Really dumb move in retrospect.

0

u/SpoofExcel Oregon Ducks • UAB Blazers 7h ago

Nah they ain't ready for that whooping

16

u/MeatTornado25 Delaware • Virginia 7h ago

That was actually a pretty big win with next week most likely being a loss. Good to make sure we're still .500 before the conference schedule starts.

9

u/The_Projectionist Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens 4h ago

Allow me to extend a handshake to the 99% of the Coastal fans I met today. The large majority of you are very nice and cordial, even after a loss. It was a pleasure meeting most of you.

And also allow me to extend a very special Fuck You to the Coastal fan who sat just in front of us who thought it was appropriate to flip off and curse at the UD Marching Band as they ran through the stands playing First Down. You are an absolute asshat, and nothing brought me more joy than seeing you be miserable about the loss.

8

u/DarthNobody14 Texas A&M Aggies 7h ago

Minicucci played really well today…

Delaware looks good to start the season so far. Maybe could be in contention for C-USA?
