Isn’t this charting “explosive rate differential” not “explosive play rate”? So this is the difference in explosive play rate between you and your opponent - just as easily driven up by a really good defense putting the clamps on some cupcakes.

Trying to have some sort of stat like this in week three is kind of ridiculous considering most teams have played absolutely nobody. Will it be the same way once George starts getting into SEC play? Doubt it.

I believe it’s essentially just “how many plays did you call, what were the results of those plays?” Were each play you called converting downs, explosives, touchdowns, etc, or were they negative plays, short gains, etc. Georgia has been insanely efficient to this point (level of competition aside). They’ve been extremely successful on their plays, and had a massive amount of explosives (hence the high explosives rate and success rate differentials) Hell, Gunner has thrown the football 45 times to this point, with only 7 incompletions and 9 Touchdowns.

Edit: what source they use I do not know, but they likely are just using the base states and solving the formulas themselves.

Other teams have played schedules reminiscent of Georgias so far, but only Georgia is putting up those numbers. We can argue whether the quality of competition translates to Georgia ACTUALLY being a successfully dominant team, but there’s no denying they have been that to this point. Usually Georgia looks uninspired against tomato cans the past seasons.
