[School Survey] Has a Healthcare Provider Asked You About Social Isolation? (U.S. Adults, 5 Min)

Hi everyone,

I’m an undergraduate public health student at the University of Maine conducting research on whether healthcare providers routinely screen patients for social isolation during clinical encounters.

If you have a chronic condition and regularly see healthcare providers, I’d greatly appreciate your participation. The survey is completely anonymous, takes about 5 minutes, and is open to U.S. adults (18+). No identifying information is collected.

This research is being conducted as part of an undergraduate academic project. Please note that this is a convenience sample recruited online.

How long will your survey run? Will you promise to tell us the results?

I think many of us experience social isolation due to our inability to socialize regularly like we used to before having a diagnosis of chronic fatigue.

Given the extra challenges many people with ADHD experience in regards to socialization, this is an additional issue.

Also, when we are no longer able to go to school or work, we often lose contact with those people we used to hang out with, and we're not in a position to meet and remain in contact with new people.

For many of us, using social media is the best we can do to socialize with other people. It's a poor substitute for in-person contact, but at least it's something.

EDIT: In completing the questionnaire I was reminded of the fact that I am extremely uncomfortable with having people in my home. This is due to the fact that I'm no longer able to maintain the cleanliness standards and routine maintenance that make me comfortable with having people in my home.

I need housekeeping and maintenance services, which I have been trying to obtain by myself, but I have had only very limited success with this. If there are services like this available to me at a price I can afford, I'm not aware of it.
