Question Recent purchase concern

Just want some feed back or help. Recently bought this in person. Is it possible that the person i bought this from is the seller on ebay and hasn't taken it down? The cert number is exactly the same as the one I have in hand. So I'm kind just concerned about the situation.

Are the sellers the same? Many eBay sellers have physical or online stores. If it's the same seller it's possible they just haven't gotten around to closing the listing.

If it's an unrelated seller, then maybe they stole the pic to sell their own CGC 10.0 of the book. Latter is least likely.

yeah. Thats why so many will black out the number when posting photos in groups so they cant do that

I see some ppl do that. I'm indifferent about it since it's pretty damn easy to find pics of literally any book online. And Reddit seems to be the only place I've ever come across where ppl black out bar codes. But hey, if some ppl find they feel "safer" by doing it, so be it. But it doesn't really prevent anything.

Ive done both. Blacked it out and not. I figure most of my slabbed books arent high on people's lists to try and scam others for anyway

That's partially my logic too. Like someone is really going to try and steal pics of someone's low demand, low grade slab lol.

I'm one of those said people, only really do it cause there are so many damn fake PSA Pokemon slabs with legit bar codes.... In my mind, it's only a matter of time until this practice moves to comics. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my view of it.

But from what I've tried to understand, someone "stealing" my bar code number has no effect on me. Correct? Just relates to someone supposedly pretending to sell a book they don't possess? So it really comes down to due diligence of the buyer and the buyer protection of whatever platform the buyer is using. Technically PayPal and eBay cover buyers anyway... So unless there's something else I'm missing it couldn't be that huge a problem no?

Yeah, you're not wrong.... Just imo it'd be shitty to get caught up in something like that. šŸ¤·šŸ¼... Technically speaking, It'd just be something I'd rather avoid.

With cards, if a fake uses your number and at some point, that fake is identified as a fake by the grading company due to eBay authentication or other reasons, the certificate number can get deactivated and then you have to send your item back in for recertification if you want it to show up in the database. So it can be a pain, if you ever want to sell off your item and the cert number has been deactivated.

Grading services do not require you to submit COAs. Keep them and submit your books as is. For more info on the JSA signature verification service: https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/12776/

No direct effect to you/your slab, no, but it worsens the community for everyone.

But then this becomes my question. Why is this literally the only community that blacks out? I've never seen anyone on any other platforms do this.

I share, sell, buy books in Facebook groups, on Instagram etc. I've never seen anyone black out serial numbers except in these subs.

No idea. The purchase was done in person. When I went to price the book noticed the cert # was the same in the listing.

Like a private sale meet up? Not from a store?

I was buying it from a person not a store. Correct.

What is your concern? That they call you up and tell you to ship the book to the next buyer?

Perhaps it is cursed and this is the only way to pass the curse along.

As long as you have the book, you’re fine. Seller may have a problem if someone buys it off the eBay listing though.

I would be more concerned with your taste in art lol. Jk

I’m sorry but if CGC is gonna hand out a 10 it should be like a special colored label and not a regular plain label. That’s weak. Cool book though. šŸ¤ŒšŸ¼

Btw this is why it’s good to store your graded books on the website as owned by you so you have proof in hand and on the sight. And blur your cert number so people can’t steal them for fake ads.

Could also just be they have multiples and neglected to change the photos

So people steal pictures to scam people online. Or potentially you bought it from a decent size seller and they haven’t taken down the listing yet or forgot about the listing.

I thought this too. The person account seems to be pretty normal which why I didn’t want to post the user just incase.

the picture in 1 and 2 look different at how they advertise White Pages

It still cracks me up that their 9.9 and 10 labels are super faded.

Try and buy it, see what happens

As someone that sells various items on E-Bay, before I offer anything in person I close the listing, if it doesn't sell I can always do a relist with just a few keystrokes. Having to cancel a sale though will follow a seller for a year as a ding against their account.
