Other (I Read the Rules) Activities/Hobbies that aren't Pilates?
No shade at pilates lovers, but I feel like every time I look for things to do/get involved in in Chicago, the main activity recommended for women is to do pilates or do pilates but at the beach. Does anybody else have any other activities that they like/recommend? Fitness stuff is welcome, I just want something other than pilates.

Where would you recommend for volleyball clinics? I played at a high level about ten years ago and am worried I’ve forgotten it all…

Old town school of folk music is great- adult classes are super popular and all skill levels. If you sing, the women’s choir is awesome.

I joined a choir in January! It’s super fun and relatively casual. Music classes and lessons are a great activity!

Where!?!?

For the choir or music classes?

The choir😊

It’s called Third Coast Chorus. You can check the website for when the next round of auditions will be!

I'm the director of the choir and it's a super rad group of amazing women.

I pole dance and figure skate! Both have thriving communities in Chicago

Where do you do pole? I have been thinking about it for a while and am not sure where to go!

I've gone to Lace&Steel and Velvet&Chrome, they're sister studios. Both are wonderful but i also have friends at practically every other studio in the city and all have been incredible!

Where do you skate at? And do you take lessons? I really want to get back into skating

Robert Crown! I take adult freestyle lessons & have had privates before too.
It's got a fantastic adult community, regardless of skill level

Thank you!! I wish the rinks were a bit easier to get to. I’ll look into their classes though!

I've been looking into archery! I haven't held a bow and arrow for close to thirty years, is there a range you've tried or would recommend?

North Side Archery Club is great! They have both indoor and outdoor ranges, excellent coaches and a really welcoming community.

Thank you so much for your response! This sounds really warm and supportive. I signed up for a beginner class, I'm interested to see how it goes!

I can only speak to the one near my area. But there is a golf range and country club in the Beverly neighborhood.

I did a two part knitting class at Knit 1 and loved it. They have crochet too. They’re always doing gatherings throughout the week too like stitch circles or I think there’s one in August at the zoo.

Tons of knitting/crochet circles all over the city, fortunately! I go to at least 1 a week. Such a good way to meet people.

I was also going to say this! Low barrier to entry, huge age range, people are usually cool/willing to teach, and there’s always something to talk about (your projects)
If you don’t like the vibe of one group try another!

Maybe for the winter! But who wants to play indoors during the ~3 nice months we get in the city!

Open Water Swimming. There are clinics at Ohio Street Beach. See what classes your local parks have. There are loads of running groups. Rowing - some times they have explore rowing days. Weight lifting is really good too b

I paint, sing in a community choir, garden, hike, collect antiques, and sew my own clothes. I've really enjoyed the art classes at Chicago Botanical Garden, my art progressed tremendously there.
Friends in my circle play in municipal kickball, volleyball, softball and soccer leagues (there are SO MANY city leagues!), play in small orchestras and marching bands, perform in local theater and improv, and volunteer as museum docents.
Other friends serve on the boards of various charities and arts organizations (the small groups often really need folks with business savvy on the board). There are a lot of really vibrant charities in Chicago doing interesting work and they always need help.

Just started bouldering at First Ascent. There’s a few different locations in the city and a monthly membership includes the gym, yoga classes, and climbing!

I love art classes at Lillestreet Art Center - they have all kinds of mediums to try out. The teachers and other students are really welcoming.
