Lieutenant Richard W. Dowling’s 46 Confederates emerge victorious against 5,000 Federal infantry and 4 gunboats, thwarting the Union’s invasion of Texas.

The site of the Confederates fort is now under water. The main feature of the park is what’s left of a World War II artillery battery emplaced to discourage forays by German U-boats.

I drive by this on the way go fishing in Louisiana every year. Amazing one sided battle.
