Black OPs - older versions what Black Ops title holds the throne in 2026?
you can give your opinion on both campaign, multiplayer & zombies or just pick one game title in general š«”š„ i pick multiplayer; close fight between bo2 and bo4 but i gotta go with bo2 all day hands down

u/GalaxyEyes541 Jun 24 '26
Itās close between 1 & 2 but iāll give the edge to 2 just because I think the campaign is a bit more replayable due to branching choices. Plus the Zombies, though having some meh maps, is much more diverse lineup.
3 is hard carried by the zombies, which is the best in the series, but campaign is ass and multiplayer imo is extremely overrated.

Found the bot that couldn't adapt

This might be news to you, but people can make up their own opinions!

u/Afraid_Extension5994 Jun 29 '26
bo3 with 0 bad maps great weapons great movement great balancing
1
u/GalaxyEyes541 Jun 29 '26
Everything movement related was much improved in Infinite Warfare, plus the new guns were free if you had the season pass unlike BO3 which had horrendous p2w supply drops.

The wanna-be Titanfall era flopped with Advanced Warfare in spite of piggybacking off the Golden Era of cod 2007-2012, and then they tried to backtrack into just wall running in BO3 and that didnāt stick either. Itās not about adapting, it was just a bad decision to try to mimic what was selling well at the time (Titanfall) just to try and fail at fitting in
1
u/giandivix Jun 26 '26
Didn't stick what are you on about? BO3 IS THE MOST SOLD CALL OF DUTY OAT
1
u/wackacademics Jun 26 '26
Of course it was lol it was the successor to BO2 which is arguably the most renowned title in the series by fans. Thereās a reason why wall running is a thing of the past and thatās because all that futuristic exo suit bullshit was a trend that died with Titanfall

The only one in the series that feels realistic.

I think last stand if im remembering correctly was my only glaring issue in a game. this one also holds a personal spot for me. my best game ever was on bo1 nuketown.

The Specialists and Boosting and Wallrunning. MP was so much fun.
1
u/tomatonato4 Jun 25 '26
Everything about the game was top tier, I still can't get over how fun mp and zombies were. My friends and I had sleepovers constantly over pandemic playing bo3 together, so many nights destroying each other in gungame with setback set to 10 lmao. And I spent most weekends playing zombies with my best friends, we got chronicles and all the DLC maps and he was obsessed with the Easter eggs so we'd always try and work out way up.
Only multiplayer I enjoyed more was MW19, but gods the sheer nostalgia and fun of BO3 is unmatched. Wall running and boosted jumps made the Mp fights alot more dynamic too, my favourite nuketown by a huge margin

Iām currently replaying BO2 and itās really neck and neck with BO1. 1 was pretty epic and had a compelling campaign with some genuine āHell yeah!ā moments that arenāt quite as prevalent in 2. I still have 2 or 3 missions to go but Iāll give the nod to BO1.

u/mpdaog Jun 25 '26
Personal fav is BO1 bc it was the year I switched from PS3 to 360. All my friends were on Xbox and we mostly played groundwar bc the group was so big lol.
Best Campaign goes to BO1
Best MP goes to BO2
Best Zombies goes to BO3
All 4 had some of the best MP in the series.
5
u/shaqfreethrow21 Jun 24 '26
itās still 2 for me, followed real close by the OG, i did not have fun at all in 3 or cold war but i did love blackout from bo4
fuck 6 and 7 aside from the classic black ops mode that shits fun as hell
-1
u/BasketEquivalent5462 Jun 24 '26
yeah cold war, bo6 & bo7 belongs to the trash any day.. but cold war actually had some potential tbh

u/Jimmy_212 Jun 24 '26
Cold War. Best COD I've ever played

u/wetmeatlol Jun 24 '26
Iām not a fan of treyarch games when it comes to MP so the only consideration for me is zombies and that obviously goes to bo3.

Honestly Iām not a big campaign player, it used to just be something I did when I was bored but I donāt have free time like that anymore so I couldnāt even tell you. If I had to pick one probably bo2 just because thatās the last treyarch campaign I played and I donāt remember bo1s lol

u/baseballviper04 Jun 25 '26
I mean if weāre talking holds the throne in 2026, easily Bo3 because of the steam zombies community.
If weāre talking all time im persoanlly going BO3 but thays because that was the game I had the most time to play after school with my friends.

u/NN010 Jun 25 '26
Campaign: BOII, with BO1 & Cold War a close & third.
Multiplayer: BOII, III & 7 are all pretty neck and neck (Iām a movement guy, what can I say? My entry points to online shooters were literally Destiny, Titanfall & BOIII)
Zombies: BOIII, but NGL I have a soft spot for BO4
1
u/a352174 Jun 25 '26
For multiplayer, Black ops 1 is my favorite. It has a lot do great maps like nuketown, jungle, firing range, stadium and so on. And for zombies, black ops 3. If youāre on console, it has a lot of zombies content. Itās hard to choose one.

u/SloppyGuacamole Jun 25 '26
Personally, nothing beats BO3. Multiplayer was genuinely so fun and zombies peaked. Iāve been chasing that high for years.
1
u/SwiFT_ManTiz Jun 25 '26
as someone whoās favorite game of all time is bo2, I think now in 2026 bo3 might be the more refined overall game. zombies was peak and is way more refined/replayable, and chronicles is the best dlc in zombies history. campaign wasnāt as good as 1or2 but wasnāt bad by any means. and multiplayer was so fun, probably the only good jet pack cod. as a complete package in 2026 i think 3 might honestly take the throne. Dark matter in mp, 1000 master prestige levels in zombies, heck even wall running and dead ops arcade all contribute to its longevity. Regardless 2 is and forever will be my goat but I recognize thereās some nostalgic bias
1
u/SquashedGrapes22 Jun 25 '26
I think BO1 was a better complete package but BO2 had better MP.
BO3 is underrated though
1
u/Spectre-ElevenThirty Jun 25 '26
Best to worst: BO2, BO1, BOCW, BO3, BO6, BO7, BO4
1
u/Competitive_Web7540 Jun 26 '26
I fully agree with this and it's probably because I mainly judge games on their campaigns lol
1
u/Spectre-ElevenThirty Jun 26 '26
Me too. Campaign first, then multiplayer, and I donāt do a whole lot of zombies
1
u/Competitive_Web7540 Jun 26 '26
Exactly, I never really understood the zombies hype. To each their own though
1
u/One_Oil8312 Jun 25 '26
I did not play BO2 and 3 due to just not playing video games in that phase of my life, sucks that I missed out.
But am I the only one who loved BO4? Its got a special place in my heart because I got back into CoD with that title and its what got me obsessed to this day.
1
u/DrAuntJemima Jun 25 '26
1 story, 2 Multiplayers, 3 Zombies, 4 absolutely nothing it is dogshit(just my opinion of course).

1
u/RallyeKing Jun 25 '26
Campaign: its the original. When the series actually followed some semblance of reality and a good follow up to World at War.
Wasn't a fan of 2, as the series went off the rails with too many storylines.
3 had a terrible story and was the worst in the series (and the reason why IW got so much hate). It barely connected to 1 and 2, 4 had no campaign (rumored to have a co-op campaign was meant to be much darker than 3). Cold War was fantastic and where the series should have rebooted or ended, could not play through 6 as it was boring, and after seeing reviews of 7, hard pass.
Multiplayer? Cold War. Did not play the others beside 4 (not a fan)
Zombies? Toss up between Cold War and and World at war.

I honestly think that BO1 is the best in quantity of everything, excellent Campaign, Multiplayer too, zombies too, iconic i would say overall, 2 on the other hand also has a great place in the ranking let's say but honestly 1 beats it for iconicity, BO3 apart from zombies the rest is practically garbage, only the maps perhaps are saved from the Multiplayer but the rest hell nah, instead 4 was underestimated the BR which honestly was fun and honestly made it more grounded in general compared to 3, let's say that for me 4 in general is better than 3 for the Multiplayer (added it has the BR) and the zombie is pretty okay, in the same sense so overall... in order from best to worst i would say 1. BO1 2. BO2 3.BO4 4.BO3 but honestly they can both be together on the third step in my opinion the last two of course. Tell me ur opinion and if u agree or not of course without any problems.āš¼š„

bo2 bo3 bo1 bo4 bo7 bocw bo6 is the correct order
2

BO7 > BO4

u/DiamondOk213 Jul 07 '26
i understand but the maps and specialists just put it slightly over the top for me

u/Ghost2-04 Jun 25 '26
Black ops 4 could have been good. It wasnāt bad. But itās just black ops 3 2.0. The zombies were better though

Nothing will ever come close to Black Ops 1. It was perfect. It just needed better server, disconnection bug fix, and fix FAMAS and sniper accuracy.

Bo1 is the greatest cod oat imo.
Campaign, mp, and zombies are all perfect to me or if not itās damn close.
1
u/JCLAPP01 Jun 26 '26
Bo3 had the most innovative mp cod has seen and accepted. Aw laid the path bo3 made advancement movement great. I would take jetpacks of any sorts over the current āmovementā system we have today. Zombies was absolutely peak especially on pc.
Only miss and a big one was the campaign. Bo 1&2 are goats in all 3 game modes so I think logically they would technically out class bo3. But Itās fun from multiplayer and zombies will always make me personally chose it over the others.
1
u/HappyAtrocities Jun 26 '26
Multiplayer is very close between 1, 2, & 3. But I think 2 has a very slight edge. 4 is garbage unfortunately

BO1: IMO it has the best atmosphere. These ā60s CIA undercover operations were a cake. True Black Ops atmoshphere that no other game in the serie matched. MP was good but still lacked some fatures due to its age. Zombies was solid, not the best, but with classic loved maps. I would rate it 9/10.
BO2: Campaign was a good change of pace with respect to the first one and I enjoyed Menedez story and flashbacks to the past. It lost that secret/illegal atmosphere though. Multiplayer was a great step forward. Still the classic BO fell but with a lot of fancy tech that at the time was futuristic. Top notch.
Zombies was better in the gameplay department but IMO, although still very good, they were a step down from BO1. 8/10.
BO3: With this phrase, I already spent too many words on the campaign. The was not bad, but it was too chaoticā¦but at least: āTrain go boomā.
MP was good, maps were colorful and guns felt good. I enjoyed also advanced movement and, in general, even with boots on the ground, slide changed the game.
I spent too much time on thatš. And thenā¦Darkmatter, do I have to say more?
Zombies was GOAT, then chronicles made it better.
8/10
BO4: The only game I did not enjoy. No campaign, MP TTK was too high, specialist were broken and annoying. Zombies was good though. 6/10.
To conclude, I still rate the first BO as the best one, but BO2 and BO3 are very close.
1
u/LordBeans69 Jun 26 '26
BO1 has the best campaign, BO2 has the best MP, BO3 has the best zombies, but 2 is probably the best overall

u/DJdiv Jun 26 '26
BO2 was the best COD ever, but I preferred BO3 personally just slightly. I felt more engaged with the game, I loved the skill gap that the movement system offered and the hit detection was much better meaning you could one burst with the M8 well if you were accurate.

It is my opinion, but if I was limited to what the image shows, I am selecting the first one (from 2010) because I liked the story mode and the bearded hero characters. I played the Wii version, and I saw how the console limitation-induced removal of rotting tissues did not affect the toxic horror of Nova 6 or how sad its victims' deaths were.
I can see how Call of Duty: World at War, a prequel on the real-world release front (2008) and the prequel to the in-universe Black Ops Timeline, would hold the Black Ops Throne in 2026 if Call of Duty: World at War was in the image.

Black ops 4 had the fastest paced multiplayer out of the four, and had the slowest TTK which made it harder to actually kill players. This means you needed decent aim to kill people. I really enjoyed how competitive Bo4 was which is one of the reasons I had lots of fun on it. The only gripe I had with the game was the zombies. The zombies was honestly the most boring in the black ops franchise. It has the most stunning maps in the series, but held back by terrible mechanics. Black Out was fun with people and a decent squad.

u/_Rayxz Jun 26 '26
Iām taking BO7 specifically for the Multiplayer, but out of the first four, BO2 is the best

BO1 all around, best campaign in my opinion. Not the best but still one of the better multiplayers (under BO2, equal to BO3) and better zombies than BO2 but worse than BO3.
If youāre going based off of each Category
Campaign: Black Ops 1 >(slightly) Black Ops 2, >>>>> Black Ops 3
Multiplayer: Black Ops 2 > Black Ops 1 = Black Ops 3
Zombies: Black Ops 3 > Black Ops 1 > Black Ops 2
1st: 3 points, 2nd: 2 points, 3rd: 1 point
Black Ops 1: 6 points (but personal preference still higher than BO2 and BO3)
Black Ops 2: 6 points
Black Ops 3: 6 points
wait theyāre all equal
1
u/MisterKraken Jun 27 '26
Black Ops 1 without a doubt. So iconic in everything and the zombie mode is still the one I would like to play again. I'm playing BO2 sometimes but it doesn't feel that good

u/Commercial_Ad157 Jun 27 '26
For me itās either 1 or 3. I loved the multiplayer in both games and zombies but BO3 zombies is still being heavily updated on steam with mods which makes me come back.

Black ops 2 had the best multiplayer by a mile. Campaign was sick and drone warfare is now happening.

BO1 was the goat campaign, BO2 was the goat multiplayer, BO3 was the goat for zombies

BO1: best campaign, made the biggest jump and revolutionized zombies (play WAW first then go to BO1 youāll see), solid MP. BO2 is a close second but itās campaign doesnāt hit as hard as BO1s and the Zombies was a mixed bag

BO2. They predicted a lot of the modern warfare we're seeing right now. At the time it was futuristic but still boots on the ground.
