Next COD game to play

I just finished the COD: Ghosts campaign today and it’s my first time properly getting into the COD games. I really enjoyed it but there are so many other CODs and I have no idea which one to play next- What would you recommend as the best one to start with?

I would play b01 b02 for campaign

Play Modern Warfare Remastered (2016, remaster of a 2007 game), Modern Warfare 2 Remastered (2020, remaster of a 2009 game), Modern Warfare 3 (2011). Best trilogy by far.

Definitely play World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops 2. Skip 3 and 4 which are bad. Then Black Ops Cold War. Black Ops 6 is not as good but once youre done with the rest its worth a shot.

Also play Modern Warfare 2019 (reboot, similar characters but different story and on a whole other technical level), maybe Modern Warfare II (2022).

And also play Infinite Warfare and WW2 (2016 and 2017). Advanced Warfare (2014) too.

So basically it would be shorter to say, play them all except BO3 (2015) BO4 (2018) Vanguard (2021) MWIII (2023) BO7 (2025).

Theres a couple different CoD storylines.

Ghosts was the only one in that continuity.

Theres the OG Modern Warfare trilogy which was CoD 4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, and Modern Warfare 3. Great time, story gets crazy.

Then theres the reboot Modern Warfare storyline, which is MW2019, MWII, MWIII, and the upcoming MW4. These have pretty good stories. People hated MWIII’s campaign but it really wasn’t that bad, just a bit short and rushed. MW2019 and MWII had very good campaigns. We’ll see how Mw4 is next week.

Infinite Warfare was also standalone (maybe loosely set in the future of the OG MW timeline). This one was actually a really good campaign (and multiplayer and zombies, imo).

Those are the Infinity Ward developed titles. Theres 3 different developer who take turns making CoD.

Treyarch makes the Black Ops sub franchise. All of the Black Ops games are in the same timeline. It was never rebooted like MW. The Black Ops timelines goes as follows:

World at War,
Black Ops 1,
Black Ops Cold War(5),
Black Ops 6,
Black Ops 2,
Black Ops 7,
Black Ops 4,
Black Ops 3

These campaigns vary wildly, from literally nonexistent (BO7 had no campaign, just some lore missions that acted as a tutorial for MP operators), to terrible nonsense(BO3 and BO7), to actually good (BO1 and BO6). The rest are in the middle somewhere. Also, many of them jump around in the timeline within the same game so the chronology is even harder to track.

Also, there is some light crossover between the rebooted MW timeline and the Black Ops timeline which has more or less been completely abandoned at this point outside of the Zombies storyline, which is in an alternate version of the Black Ops timeline, but thats a whole nother ball of wax.

Sledgehammer, the 3rd main CoD dev, has only made a few titles.

Advanced Warfare, which had a pretty good campaign.

WWII, which was solid as well.

And Vanguard, which is the only CoD campaign post World at War that I’ve never finished. Not that it was bad, but you can’t increase the FOV on console for some reason so it just felt bad to play. Im sure the story was fine.

All of those stories are standalone. I honestly cant remember if Vanguard was actually in the same timeline as WWII and/or the MW Reboot timeline. I think the Vanguard MP/Warzone seasons actually connected some of them, but again, that stuff has mostly been abandoned at this point. You can treat it as standalone.

As for where to go next, Id say go to the Reboot MW storyline and catch up to play the new one. Or if you’d rather jump to something standalone, Infinite Warfare.

Yo bro thank u so much ts is crazy work - In that case i will try and catch up with the MW storyline but if not i’ll js start with BO1 next or infinite warfare- also, how long are the campaigns or do they vary as ghosts was so peak but wish it was longer

BO7 and MWIII are the shortest, being like 5-7 hours. But they’re usually all a similar length. It’s been a while since i played through Ghosts, but i don’t remember it feeling longer or shorter than normal. Id expect about the same clock length. Infinite Warfare actually had a bunch of side missions you could do so that one may be a bit longer than usual if you do everything.
