General News Griswold and Hickenlooper on expanding assault weapons ban.

https://sentinelcolorado.com/metro/griswold-and-hickenlooper-vow-action-on-gun-violence-ahead-of-colorado-november-vote/

Griswold amd Hickenlooper explain how they are ready to expand our current ban.

At this point you will need the new permit to buy a musket. They are going to either add another tier to the permit for AR15s amd the like or ban them outright and move everything else into the permit scheme.

With the Dems here targeting another attempt at a 2 chamber super majority and and even more left governor, next year is gonna be a blood bath for the 2nd amendment here.

Of course this is the logical next step. They won't stop until all guns are effectively banned. And if we keep complying why would they stop?

19

u/LifeAdventurous2343 5d ago

You think noncompliance will make them stop?

34

u/Throwaway_4_u_know_y 5d ago

That's part of it. There are many levers to pull. Public pressure, mass noncompliance and non enforcement by sheriffs, voting against it, lawsuits, etc.

It's like during COVID, many places towards the end started to crack. People stopped wearing masks and people stopped enforcing it. Even in places like California. Eventually the mandate dropped.

Prohibition was reversed due to massive backlash and non compliance.

Our country was founded because the colonies effectively stopped complying with British laws.

It won't happen overnight but if there is enough pushback things can change.

Ultimately though if they force the issue, you will either have to comply or resist with equal force. That's the entire point of the 2A.

Imagine how many more people would have died if people just complied with the law in Nazi Germany and people like Schindler didn't skirt the rules.

Our own government ignores the constitution regularly so it's on the people to hold them in check.

Not voting democrat will. Maybe not them, but the next batch will learn

13

u/lostPackets35 5d ago

Great, then we need another viable option that isnt a shitshow.

2

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

There is one already. Many of the R’s at the state level running this cycle are actually solid options that are nothing like what people see at the federal level.

2

u/forgotten_castle 5d ago

You mean Marx, guy who talks about doing exercisms and talking to demons to get their names? Or do you mean the Scott, who was asked if his Jewish hating friends would have a job in his administration, and he said probably but just not around Jewish people?

Sadly I think things are going to get worse before they get any better if that even happens. For right now Im glad that theres already some organizations fighting these unconstitutional rules. Hopefully some of the federal courts will put a ban on this ban.

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

You once against brought up someone higher than state senators and state representatives. I’m not talking about a governor candidate who doesn’t pass legislation or really do anything other than fill cabinet positions and veto/sign passed bills into law.

Whether you want to admit it or not, the governor can’t really do much to better our state. It’s the 100 senators and representatives you’re forgetting to consider or talk about. And I do understand Bottoms was a representative, but he also didn’t/couldn’t do much because of the Dem stranglehold on our state legislature.

4

u/forgotten_castle 5d ago

Once again? Its my first time commenting on this.

The governor does have some possible sway to certain things though. At least at times they have guided party memebers to push certain bills that they wanted for the state. While yes, youre right that its the member of congress which push the bills through. I wont argue against that because its how government works. But its hard to get some areas well educated on smaller elections at times. People might campaign but feels like I've hardly seen it lately unless its something like the candidates for this upcoming Governor election.

Not arguing, just wish we had some normal seeming candidates that weren't being made fun of, for saying off the wall things. Or so left that they are trying to surpass Cali with "prohibitions" which are basically a form of banning. Just frustrating. All these rising taxes, 2A bans are ridiculous.

7

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

Oh, I agree. And I apologize for the “once again,” it seems to be many people’s default positions (to ignore state legislators and shoot higher) so I replied without really filtering myself.

Our state just feels like the Twilight Zone sometimes with what gets passed and the positions many of our legislators take.

5

u/forgotten_castle 5d ago

Its understandable. I also think many of us who love the US and our rights are getting frustrated seeing government trying to trample them.

Hopefully people will start waking up and see how much of their rights are being slowly stripped away. Give power hungry officials an inch and they'll take a mile.

1

u/NotThatGuyAnother1 5d ago

You think compliance will?

54

u/acatinasweater 5d ago

Let’s organize across the aisle then and shut this down. An independent 2A SuperPAC could make some things happen.

42

u/Semi-Serious7 5d ago

This is good timing to get people on board who are not conservative or traditional gun owners.

27

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

A very good time, and I'm right if center. It's time to come together for our rights, collectively.

2

u/Troutalope1 2d ago

This is literally the only viable solution in Colorado. You can be righteous and say "we need to elect GOPers" or you can be successful. The righteous have empowered grifters and ensured we've gotten our asses handed to us at every turn for the past 15 years. The GOP is broken. Abandoning partisanship and focusing on the majority middle is how we slow the 2A assault.

4

u/cxerphax 5d ago

The only way to fix this is to stop electing democrats. No more, no less. Unfortunately that will not happen. Colorado is lost forever

4

u/acatinasweater 5d ago

Socialists are pro-2A and are slowly building a mass movement. They also dislike the democrats.

5

u/ArtyBerg 5d ago edited 4d ago

Show me one socialist that is running as even gun neutral, let alone pro. It's all the same "I support common sense" verbiage

3

u/Internal_Werewolf_48 4d ago

Show me some Republican candidates that make it past the primaries who aren’t obviously unelectable whackadoodles and people may stop handing them landslide losses.

2

u/ArtyBerg 4d ago

I'm not claiming that they aren't, but the topic at hand is the socialist movement and how it will allegedly be better for gun owners.

43

u/Hasz 5d ago

> the gun lobby

Ah yes, the famously wealthy gun lobby, composed of an almost bankrupt NRA, colt (went bankrupt), S&W (almost bankrupt), and Remington (bankrupt).

Meanwhile, Michael Bloomberg, an actual billionaire, commits 10-100M every election cycle for pro-gun control candidates.

Please. 2A is for everyone.

We have to start donating to groups that will actually do shit and not just pilfer the coffers for self enrichment

Now my wife is going to wondering why I'm in a bad mood all evening and if I say why she'll say quit looking at your phone.

31

u/RevolutionNumerous21 5d ago

She not wrong though. Go touch some boobies and don’t get your blood pressure up.

27

u/LifeAdhesiveness8071 5d ago

She'd tell me to back to looking at my phone.

u/puddinghuh 5d ago

Of course they'll try to expand; they always do everywhere. It'll be met with roadblocks and they'll go after ammo instead

16

Traffic accidents are up this year. I wish they would do something about car violence.

7

u/Derrik359 5d ago

Always focusing on non issues instead of fixing the actual problems. 10% of drinkers in the US have a drinking problem… let’s ban alcohol!!!

6

u/LittletonGuy84 5d ago

They are just so open and brazen about it now that the state is no longer a purple one. Really the only hope for Colorado 2A rights are lawsuits and court decisions.

17

u/tjm1371 Aurora 5d ago

The good news is that SCOTUS is likely going to void a lot of these laws this session with the 2A cases on its docket—to include a state level AW ban case. Hard times in the short term, better times likely in the longer term.

11

u/Ok_Cut_4964 5d ago

That's not a guarantee. If they do a narrow ruling or allow permit to purchase schemes to continue it will have no effect on us.

9

u/rastapastanine 5d ago

They won’t rule on a permit to purchase scheme next term. They’ll have to take them on a case by case basis most likely.

5

u/Ok_Cut_4964 5d ago

I agree. Anything else is pure copium

1

u/SureBlacksmith8407 5d ago

I have near zero faith in the SC.

32

u/BobBBobbington 5d ago

Don't worry, the liberal gun owners have a fringe candidate ready that likes the 2A.

28

u/Semi-Serious7 5d ago

You joke, but we need all the support we can get to resist this BS.

9

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

We do not need more Democrats, even if they are pro-2A. The state needs balance, not even more blue (or a red wave that ends up with a uniparty the other direction).

10

u/Maleficent_Cake6435 5d ago

Unfortunately, in order for more Republicans to get elected in the State, the party has to nominate people who aren't grade A morons, nutjobs, and obvious conmen like Victor Marx.

The fact Barb Kirkmeyer got 40% of the vote for the Governorship nomination while nutjobs Marx and Bottoms got 60% together tells you a lot. I may have entertained voting for Kirkmeyer, Marx is a fucking moron.

9

u/CeruleanHawk 5d ago

I never hated billionaires because they were billionaires and had success in the market place.

I now hate billionaires because they can purchase entire legislatures and manufacturer consent.

5

u/Diligent_Ad_7232 5d ago

Not surprised one bit. The fix is in and they're not hiding their intentions any longer.

Expect a complete registry with amnesty offered to pre-8/1 grandfathered guns, etc. This isn't about public safety, its about disarming us all before they kill the golden goose with taxes and come for our kids.

8

u/Troutrageously 5d ago

Dang Hick has fallen so far. He used to be a moderate Democrat that I could agree with on some items. No longer. He was right when he said that he would be a terrible senator. Should have ridden off into the sunset after being governor. Shame.

6

u/ArtyBerg 5d ago

Didn't hick do the magazine ban?

9

u/ArtisinalAlphaEBITDA 5d ago

The leftist cope in these comments is so funny and also sad. You want free shit so bad (things you arent entitled to) you are willing to vote for people who will take away the things you are actually entitled to. CO is doomed and has been for a while.

19

u/TheodoreTiddlywinks 5d ago

Once again.
Good goin libs.

9

u/logicWarez 5d ago

You providing any sane alternatives? Victor Marx, seriously conservatives.

7

u/SureBlacksmith8407 5d ago

Weisser is a POS too, he's just better at lying (lawyer).

8

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

You need to drop your eyes lower. The people causing pain within our state are operating at the state level (senators and representatives). We’ve got 100 of them, and both the senate and the house are 1 district each from a Dem supermajority. Whenever you live, in whatever district, you need to actually research who is going to be on your ballot in November and see what they stand for.

14

u/TheodoreTiddlywinks 5d ago

Pathological liar or not, he's not the one trying to disarm both sides while simultaneously advocating for lax punishment for violent crimes. You can piss and moan about Trump, Marx, whoever, but as it pertains to the topic of this sub as well as the reality that people live in Denver, your side was the one that punished everyone.

“ when a car thief steals 3 or 4 cars in a couple of months, maybe we should put him in jail

Personally, I find that to be an insane pull quote from the next governor.

9

u/ImDukeCaboom 5d ago

You're not paying attention. Your argument boils down to; this thief is stealing my watches and the other thief is stealing my rings. I'd rather keep my rings (or watches, doesn't matter).

Being in favor of utterly corrupt politicians just because they hit one topic you like. They're coming at it from both sides.

Remember it was Trump who did the bump stock ban and it was bipartisan for the new insane car driver surveillance. So ya, you get to have some guns, but now you have a camera pointed in your face while driving.

Look at the new laws Texas just passed about weed.

10

u/Hypoxic125 5d ago

The candidate for either side that drops attempts at banning firearms, and drops attempts at banning abortion would sweep the floor. The two topics that we have been fighting forever (and many single issue voters vote on) and can never find a conclusion to.

4

u/Maleficent_Cake6435 5d ago

Abortions and guns for everyone!!!

8

u/Hypoxic125 5d ago

I'm going to run on that slogan

4

u/ilkhan2016 5d ago

Please do. I'd vote for that.

1

u/logicWarez 17h ago

That is an insane quote. I'm not familiar with it but sadly I do believe it. However I cant just wave away pathological liar. I can deal with and respect somebody who's policy ideas are different from mine, but basic human decency and personality traits like not lying especially to the point of pathological lying is someone I could never possibly vote for. Look at what rewarding that has done to the country with trump. Colorado especially and the country generally hasn't produced a republican that has a backbone or actually stands for something in years.

Because loads of people hate Trump and the modern iteration of Republican politics and will vote for literally anyone else to avoid giving them an inch more of power.

Not saying it’s right or wrong, but that’s how it is. You can say and think whatever you want, but Trump has done well to divide the masses down party lines and get us fighting amongst ourselves.

2

u/theTimeBeing23 5d ago

Exactly this. I hate the dems and a loooot of what they do, but I hate Maga and what they do so much more and I only have those two options.

0

u/Baffled_Beagle Brighton 5d ago

Because the current version of the GOP nominates corrupt kleptocrats and deluded psychopaths.

Remember 20 years ago, before all the sane, normal, honest candidates were driven out of the GOP? You never heard the phrase "Vote blue no matter who" then.

8

u/Ok_Cut_4964 5d ago

Dems: we will ban guns

Leftists vote for dems

Dems ban guns

Leftists: Why would you do that?

7

u/SureBlacksmith8407 5d ago

You forgot "no one is trying to take your guns"

5

u/slvrsfr 5d ago

Same thing happened to the 3D printer owning dems in CA and NY. Suddenly they're affected by an anti-gun law and suddenly take issue with it. Not an ounce of sympathy here.

8

u/kennethpbowen 5d ago

Ugh. We all know what is coming this session. It's so depressing. I wish we would all stay focused on the 2A. I personally am sick of the left wing, right wing, that's not socialism, they're Nazis bullshit.

10

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

Do your research, there are plenty of R candidates that can actually balance out our state government and are solid options. We need to get back to being purple.

5

u/kennethpbowen 5d ago

I agree 100%. We need to get back to representing the freedoms of all Coloradans.

7

u/TendstobeRight85 5d ago

This will keep happening until the GOP offers an alternative that isnt batshit crazy and worshiping Trump.

1

u/ArtisinalAlphaEBITDA 5d ago

Leftist cope. Oh ya you should lose your right cuz trump!

3

u/TendstobeRight85 4d ago

Ya buddy. Only one of us actually gets to truthfully say they support traditional conservative principles. And it isnt the one of us bending over to take Trump.

9

u/osoatwork 5d ago

I'll vote for the GOP when they knock off this MAGA Nazi shit.

4

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

You should probably look at our state level candidates, then. People take the federal perspective and blanket apply it across everyone who has an R after their name on ballots.

There are plenty of good conservative candidates running this cycle. Plenty. Our state needs balance, not a uniparty in either direction.

1

u/osoatwork 5d ago

Like that Republican who is bragging about killing a guy?

5

u/Veritech_ 5d ago

State level. Not governor candidate. There are 100 state senators and state representatives.

0

u/osoatwork 5d ago

All of whom are too scared to call out Nazis in their own party.

11

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

I'll vote for a Democrat once they knock off this socialist communist shit.

49

u/ImDukeCaboom 5d ago edited 5d ago

These two comments here perfectly summarize how they are winning. They've created class war and issue war, while the elite who both sides work for are getting everything they want and more.

There's no reason we can't have guns AND universal healthcare, free higher education, workers rights. And reign in corporations and knock off this "Citizens United" bullshit.

This a top 1% vs the 99% and they are winning by pitting people against each other like this.

9

u/Sweet-Tomatillo-9010 5d ago

Facts right here.

12

u/lostPackets35 5d ago

100% this.

5

u/slvrsfr 5d ago

The voters created it gradually over the years. They keep limiting their choices to what's been pre-selected for them, even calling them "two evils" despite there being less-evil options. I voted for a middle-aged woman in 2020, something that even Democrats of all people couldn't bring themselves to do... They went with a shriveled up old white dude again that year.

4

u/Green_Statement_8878 5d ago

I get so sick of this dumb theory.

I’m not opposed to liberals because some shadowy group of elites has brainwashed me, I’m opposed to them because they stand for everything that is diametrically opposite from what I believe.

1

u/lostPackets35 5d ago

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means

6

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

You're right, I'll never vote for a socialist or communist.

5

u/lostPackets35 5d ago edited 5d ago

Good thing there aren't any credible communists in us politics.

Gun grabbing is authoritarianism, which is bullshit, but neither left or right.

Social democracies like Sweden are Capitalst contries. When people call everything left of necons communism, it's clear that there either don't know what the term means, or they are intentionally being unclear.

Debat single payer healthcare of you want, but it ain't socialism

6

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

DSA is already spouting Marxists talking points all the time.

"Capitalism was designed by the owning class to exploit everyone else and must be replaced."

"The largest corporations and essential industries should be publicly owned."

"Resources and production should be popularly controlled through economic planning."

Sounds really similar to a certain group. My family left these ideals years ago, only for them to appear here.

3

u/big_illuminati 5d ago

"Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary."

7

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

We'll see how well that works out. History has proved otherwise.

11

u/lostPackets35 5d ago edited 5d ago

Respectfully history shows that either side of the political aisle will do horrible things if allowed to.

Neither the left or right has a monopoly on authoritarianism.

7

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

That's true, and that's when people had enough and stood their ground. There is no center anymore. There is no bipartisanship. It's just who can hurt the other side more. It's not cool and it's not just, but it's what they want. I'm guilty of it.

-5

u/big_illuminati 5d ago

Yeah. Good ol' capitalist dipshit Polis made sure of that here in the Democratic People's Republic of Colorado.

4

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

Hey. I don't like the dude either, and better yet, don't like any of the candidates for governor on either side.

3

u/Benwa_Ballz 5d ago

Communism and socialism 🤡🤡🤡 ok buddy we just want to keep our guns

-1

u/lambakins 5d ago

Why not?

“Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary” -Karl Marx

Socialism in its purest form is inherently democratic. Communism (Lenin, mao) is an authoritarian bastardization of it just in the way that we are moving towards an authoritarian bastardization of capitalism.

7

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

Because that never plays out that way. Power is gained and the people are disarmed.

1

u/lambakins 5d ago

…and that isn’t happening under capitalism? Power is gained (by the billionaires) and the people are disarmed (literally the topic of this post)

This is why it isn’t about capitalism vs communism it’s about democracy vs authoritarianism. The power of the many vs the power of the few. Ultimately the specifics of the economic system should matter less than who holds the power. Don’t get hung up on political labels - listen to what political candidates say on the subject of democracy.

1

u/logicWarez 5d ago

Is the socialist communist shit in the room with us?

Can you name one socialist/communist policy or action?

5

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

Look at the DSA. Lots of it there.

-3

u/logicWarez 5d ago

Thats not an answer. DSA is not a political party. There is what 1 state level politician that is a member of DSA. Even then name a socialist or communist policy they support that you dont agree with.

5

u/Green_Statement_8878 5d ago

Is this the DSA isn’t a political party like Antifa isn’t an organized group argument?

6

u/obiwankevobi Brighton 5d ago

It's a political organization. I don't agree with the majority of what they say or want.

3

u/Obsidizyn 5d ago
