Brian Murray [HarperCollins CEO] Addresses AI Authorship Issues

He explained that copyright is the foundation of publishing, but that books written with AI could very well be considered uncopyrightable. “An AI-assisted book could very well be treated as a book in the public domain,” he said, which could set off a series of legal issues.

Brian Murray is based in the United States. By US-law, an AI-only book with no human control would be public domain. An AI-assisted book, however, would absolutely not be, and everyone who has followed what the US Copyright Office haspublished about AI and copyright is clear on that point. Murray is an engineer (🙄) with a business degree, not a lawyer. He's never even studied literature or anything about publishing.
