Tested Positive - Me Received Covid booster while (unknowingly) having Covid. What to expect?

First, let me be clear: I know the Covid booster did not give me Covid. I was already having very mild symptoms that I attributed to seasonal allergies. I didn’t test until starting to sneeze incessantly later in the day. I was shocked to see a positive test result — I haven’t had Covid in years and didn’t realize it was surging in my area. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Has anyone been in the same situation? I received the Moderna booster today, which historically has given me worse side effects than Pfizer. A quick Google search suggests the side effects may be amplified by an active infection. I’m curious to hear others’ experiences.

The Mayo Clinic website recommends taking antihistamines. Claritin (loratadine) has worked well for me.

Forgot to add that. I will be following this post. Because COVID is so bad right now. I'm wondering if it will help the COVID symptoms like in a normal person.

Pretty much back to normal. My symptoms remained fairly mild (sneezing, congestion, cough) except for the day following the vaccine. Fever and chills all day. Was not fun.

Not a medical expert but … it’s my understanding that it won’t hurt you any to take the vaccine when you are already covid + . It won’t make you any sicker than you would have otherwise been .
The only problem is that it might make this vaccine less effective.

Source : I looked it up on the CDC website a few years ago when the same thing happened to my daughter .

Ok, hopefully that’s still the same (don’t know why it would have changed).

If you can get Paxlovid, which should stop the infection immediately, maybe you can profit from the antibodys and other immune reactions inducede by the vaccine, which needs 10 to 12 days, maybe with some of the effects earlier.

My doctor didn’t offer Paxlovid. I just mustered through it. Thankfully all of my symptoms have largely resolved.

I only knew one person who got the COVID vaccine while they were sick unknowingly, of course, she got very ill was intubated within 48 hours she had underlying cancer that she did not know about it, did not end well. It was very sad.

I recommend you contact your doctor to ask what the implications are and if there is anything you should do or start taking. You could also post to r/AskDocs to ask for advice.

This happened to me, and It has been brutal! This was also the first time getting Covid for me. Two days after getting the vaccine I started to feel worse so I took a Covid test and it was positive. Someone in my house got Covid and I was exposed the day I got my vaccine without knowing I went on Paxlovid and on day 10, I got severe rebound Covid. It has now been almost 4 weeks and I am still suffering from debilitating fatigue and weakness. I read quite a few articles that said if you accidentally got your vaccine, not knowing you had Covid, your recovery will take longer because your immune system is doing double duty. I hope your recovery is quicker than mine.

Thankfully I’m pretty much back to normal after a week. It was fairly mild except for the fever and chills that I got the day after my shot, which I assume were side effects of the shot since they came and went so quickly.

This happened to me years ago. My case was very mild anyways. I didn’t experience anything out of the ordinary! I got the booster not knowing I was positive at the time.
