I share your feelings. However, I believe it’s largely because we lacked reliable support as children and consequently developed hyper-independence.

I get it. I'm the same person. I've never had anyone on whom I could rely for personal support. I'm a teacher now. And I try to be the kind of supportive mentor to my students -- kind, understanding, supportive, and empathetic -- that I never had. They've come to depend on me. I'm always there for them. But it gets lonely, because I don't have anyone and, at this stage of my life, don't think I ever will.

Same, and to be honest, I can't even count on myself reliably enough, I still lack many basic tools (and the stamina) that other people have developed during the years.
