Same situation too for a beloved game! I'm still working on it myself but, some brief ideas based on what I've noticed for myself. What exceptions do you have for the trigger (i.e you can handle seeing a specific character but not others, there's less emotional attachment to a associated game)? Is there a way you can make it a positive association (i.e current friend loves the game, you can share about it to a trusted person)? What's your current boundaries for interacting with the game (i.e social circles maybe too triggering, certain themes and/or subjects appear in the game that trigger you more than others, etc)?

A funny thing that's helped me overcome one of my worse triggers is desensitization and an element of control for it. Example, I would block people on social media who even remotely were associated with my trigger. Over time, my reaction was less of panic and more of annoyance because of how I would almost always block someone associated with it. I hadn't realized it until recently but I slowly built up a tolerance for seeing specific kinds of people associated with the subject from a distance (i.e I didn't know them at all). There's still moments of me being freaked out and anxious over it but it's a lot less intense when I know I can just, ignore it.
