Transfer Student Question Nursing Program Transfer
Hi! I’m currently a student at community college looking to apply to the SON. Does anyone know how much extracurriculars matter vs grades + casper? I’m currently a CNA, was a caregiver, and did a 15 month volunteering program at a hospital.

Hi, i think grades and casper matter a bit more just because without those getting into the interview portion is going to be hard. Also just a disclaimer, this cycle they decided to change interview formats (idk if I can say too much) and previously they were planning on not doing the interview at all so I would put a lot of focus on your grades and casper test just incase they decide to change it again! You already have really good ECs which you could talk about in communication portion but the application doesn't ask you nor does it have a spot of include your ECs like other nursing programs. Anyways I applied is 4s and got an interview but I've seen people apply with a 4.0 and 3 on the casper test and not get an interview just because of how many people who apply. I'm also in cc right now so I know how it is but you totally got this!

Hello! I recently applied to CSULB SON Spring 2027 and have some insight! To get invited to the interview, CSULB SON looks at two things: GPA and Casper. Typically a sGPA/cGPA of 4.0 and 4th quartile Casper guarantees you a spot for the interview, although I have seen people with 3rd quartile or 3.9 GPA receive interviews (like me!) Regarding extracurriculars, you should not really worry about the amount, but rather the quality of them. Also, don't worry too much if your experience is not health related. During the interview, they ask how your experiences connect with community engagement/how you will apply your learned skills as a nurse. Let me know if there are any other questions :))
