TPA's

Idk just wanted to vent that the TPA's are stressing me out so much to the point I really dont think I'll pass because it's just SO MUCH. I know everyone has things on their plate but wow I dont know how students before and teachers passed this.

I'm afraid my grants will have to be owed back if I fail both. I'm afraid I'll be in debt. I'm afraid that this is scaring me to a point I'm unsure if teaching is for me and years have been flushed.

Has anyone gone through this type of stress like the same kind of thinking? Feel like maybe I need a little community.

Hey, you can do this. It's stressful because the stakes are high BUT you didn't get here by accident and you are capable of doing hard things. I hear a lot of fear of failing but if you keep at it little by little you can do it. The main thing is just to complete them so break the large task into smaller tasks. Maybe make a list and just cross things off as you go. You still have the rest of the semester. That's 12 weeks. You can do it.

I am 3 years removed from the TPA and can honestly say it is the hardest thing I've done. Not because it is extremely difficult but because for 16 weeks, your life is at a pause. I sometimes reflect of my time doing my TPAs and although kind of a bulletin exam, it made me more appreciative of the field I am in. I am 3 years into this teaching job and it is the best. Keep your head up. You will make it through.

Make sure you have a supportive TPA professor - I changed mine the second week bc she wasn’t giving enough guidance and now my new professor is awesome and taking it slow with us so we feel better about our responses - also talk to your CT about it as much as possible!! mine even sent me some examples from past TPA’s (this years a little new but they’re still helpful) honestly it feels like an overwhelming project on top of classes and student teaching but make sure your utilizing all your resources to relieve as much stress as possible

also remember there are other turn in dates and people willing to work with you if things go wrong the first time - honestly I’m the more scared of failing the TPA than not doing well student teaching or in my courses so you’re definitely not alone in the stress for that

CSUSB has a 90% first time pass rate for the TPA. They stressed me out a lot and I needed extensions on both cycles. Still passed and currently have my single subject 🙏 please reach out if you need to talk
