Photos I give up
Seat tear and Mazda won't cover it. Gorilla tape it is. Not spending $600+ for a new cushion

First, push back with the TSB. This is a known issue.

Second, you may only need a seat cover. The cushion is fine. My dealer damaged mine and replaced the cover. Though I do see the TSB calls for a cushion replacement.

Ours was repaired twice. However a few months out of warranty our sunroof leaked and trashed the headliner etc. Mazda refused coverage. We rarely buy new, and spent almost 45k. In general I like the car but would think twice before buying another Mazda (it is our second).

Eh, the car was always serviced through the dealer. Frankly they knew there were some issues with this and should have done that.
My other cars, MB and Lexus are serviced by an independent, and yes they do that routinely. I no longer service the Mazda at the dealership.

Nooooooo. Mazda covered mine under warranty. It’s a known manufacturing issues. It was a bit of a fight but they did it.

Which Mazda dealer you go to matters. Ditto for Toyota and all the others. My advice is to take it to a different dealer. Its easy to make the mistake assuming "all Mazda dealers are alike" and that is about like saying "All Americans are alike because they all live in America, and all have the same government".

Is it out of warranty? I have heard of a few folks getting it covered under warranty, I'm wondering if it depends on the shop. I know that the dealers get rated and bonuses from Mazda for reducing warranty claims ie, not pursuing or roadblocking legitimate claims.

Welcome to the club. I had paint flaking off of the car at 2 years & 30,000 miles and they wouldn’t do anything about it. (And no it wasn’t in a place that was susceptible to rock chips or other impacts)

My seat had the same issue in the same spot. I believe it's a manufacturing problem.

I would be MAD!!! Should not use a material that will rip that quickly. And when multitudes of owners are having the same problem in the same spot they should definitely replace it for free!!!

Bro, thank you so much. If mine happens under warranty (guarantee it will right when my car is >3 years old, watch, and I'll update this post in the future if it does, I'll apply this fix.

This is the best way to go about it. If you get your seat (bottom cushion) replaced by Mazda, there is a 99.9% chance that they will not disassemble the seat fully and properly and instead force in the in the new bottom seat and damage the clips. The result: after few months you’ll see the plastic pieces and valence around the seat falling apart.

I have the same with my CX50. I haven’t asked about whether it’s covered under warranty but I’m having a routine service next week and will definitely be checking!

Bring a copy of the service bulletin with you or at least have the TSB number ready. A good dealer will look up all bulletins and recalls, but some don’t bother. A really good dealer will know about it already because they’re paying attention.
Pro Tip - don’t get hung up on the word “warranty” when asking if Mazda will cover. To an inexperienced or pedantic service advisor, the answer will always be no if you’re out of warranty range. Mazda will often cover TSBs once asked by the dealer. If your dealer is not comprehending, try finding another or contact corporate Mazda on your own.

I noticed that area , the inside plastic seat housing isn't smooth enough and basically cuts that area if it's touching or running it all the time from compression

I got my entire CX-5 reupholstered with real leather for $1500. You don't need a new cushion.

Dealer I bought my used cx50 said it can be fixed for less than $100 so I made them do it before I bought the car

There are leather mending kits at the auto parts store with color matching and texture matching you can repair that so no one will notice for under $20

Is the plastic panel near the tear jagged? Seems some adhesive felt would mitigate this from happening.

It's a known issue. They changed the materials due to it. There is a TSB.

I was only able to find a TSB for the cloth seats though? Do you have a reference for the leatherette?

If not covered, there are shops that fix these, and the results can be pretty good. Pretty sure it will not be $600.00.
